Transaction was initially declined as our debit card had a daily transaction limit lower than the cost of airfare. We had that lifted for 24hrs as recommended by the bank. Then we tried to buy the tickets again, called SmartFares immediately to let them know the transaction must be run within 24hrs or the card will not be authorized for this transaction. The rude customer service rep showed no concern and replied "I will email my people and request that it be run in that time" but was otherwise unhelpful. The transaction was not run within 24hrs (this was a weekday, non-holiday) and the transaction was again declined nearly 48hrs later. Now we have called back a third time to try to arrange this transaction and the customer service rep tells us we don't understand, this problem is due to insufficient funds (not true, there is plenty of money in the account) and now says the fare has increased by $250 and he offered to run the transaction immediately at the higher rate. When asked why he couldn't run our previous transaction in real time, he didn't have an answer and again tried to convince us that this is our fault, we didn't have money in the account and we are now being penalized with a higher rate. Smartfares.com still lists the flight at the original rate. If the original fare wasn't much lower than on other websites, I would not continue to work with this company.
