Wow, thanks so much for sharing this information. After lots of frustration I was able to speak with a human using the first number you mention.

As others have said, I thought I was booking through the hotel site, rec'd the "thank you" message but not the email confirmation. I was then unable to speak to a person thanks to the horrible looping phone message, which refers you to the website, which refers you back to the nightmarish 800 number. And so it goes, on and on. When cancelling through their site it appears simple enough, but there is no confirmation number given for the maybe-cancellation or message stating cancellation was successful. Since so many other things about this site seem meant to trick you, I didn't trust the res would be cancelled and my card credited. (card credited for full amt of a 2 nt stay a month in the future) in fact, looking up the cancelled reservation a few minutes later shows it not cancelled and gives the option again to cancel. This has been nothing but frustrating and time consuming. Avoid, avoid, avoid!,
The number provided above did connect me to a polite person who cancelled the reservation and gave a reference number. I will see if the amount is actually refunded.
