Just come back from Ghazala Gardens after 11 nights from 15/09. Paid extra for a suite only to be given what could 0nly be described as a prison cell. I can't remember the number but it was on the 1st floor of the block that had the pool leading into the ground floor suites. We lasted 1 night and managed to get moved the next morning. At the welcome meeting we were told there was a problem with the Air conditioning throughout the whole complex and from speaking to other guests it appeared it had been a problem for some time and some people had complained so much they were moved to alternative hotels. In Red seas defence they did resolve the problems and were always available when required. The two rooms we stayed in weren't too bad, very spacious but could have done with a lick of paint. In room 1627 the hair dryer was ready to fall off and at times couldn't be turned off. The light fitting inside the room above the front door / next to the bathroom was held up with cardboard which fell down on our last day. I won’t mention the power cut which knocked out the satellite TV for 2 days. The pool setup was superb. It was like being in a lazy river in a Florida theme park. It was kept clean by a fairly enthusiastic employee although on several occasions we did notice he would just up and leave whilst halfway through cleaning at one point leaving a carrier bag that was within grabbing distance floating across the pool. The majority of the sun chairs were well past their sell by date with missing wheels and broken parts. Some of the parasols were in a terrible state and we often saw other guests taking photos of them - I assume they will be seen on trip adviser in the coming days –
The overall appearance of the grounds was good and the gardeners did a good job keeping them maintained despite the 100 degree heat.
Breakfast was pretty good with quite a varied menu. Lunch time was either in the Italian for pizza or pasta. The toppings in the Pizza’s were very few and far between. A grill bar for chicken & steak burgers, fish fingers, chicken nuggets – that was all pretty good or the Oasis bar upstairs - get there early and you’ll get the best food. Get there late and it will be cold and dry.
Now on to the staff.
Considering quite a few had been laid off due to lack of numbers of guests you would have though the remaining staff would be on their guard and be as helpful as possible but o dear !
Chefs would just walk away whilst you were waiting to get served. This happened to lots of people and was quite amusing to see the expressions on people’s faces. I noticed a few chef’s wearing kitchen gloves but chatting away on their mobiles whilst serving people. – So much for hygiene -
The bar staff were so slow and again would often just walk away leaving customers waiting for them to return. Drink measures were terrible. There was no draught beer. It was all bottles kept in ice so the majority were warm. You couldn’t have a whole bottle you had to have a small plastic glass. Some days the soft drinks were cold as they would use the machines other days they would just poor a glass of coke or orange from a bottle which again would be warm.
A word of warning to all you guests going to Ghazala Gardens. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE SPA SALESMEN. They will give you the usual speil about how good they are , charge you £30 after the 1st visit – which is across the road in Ghazala Beech - for two pedicures and on your second one they won’t be there. We had to complain to the rep and managed to get our money back, but we still had to run the gauntlet of going over there on our own and confront them .If you do not heed the above warning and do opt for a pedicure then be prepared to sit on an old plastic chair with your feet on the blokes knee. He will use a scrubbing brush that had not been sterilised and the nail varnish will be in an old plastic ice cream box – professional eh ? . Having moaned a little too much in this review I must add that we did enjoy our time at Ghazala Gardens it was the fact that a lot of little things add up and play on your mind when it comes to reviews. If Ghazala cleaned the rooms up, Gave them a lick of paint , renewed the sun beds & parasols , sorted out some of the lazy staff and got rid of the grand spa team – who are totally independent – It would have changed my whole opinion of the hotel.
Ps: Got to add the massage is very good. Speak to the sales lady Russia she’s very friendly and polite.
