Our second visit to the Athena Royal - wonderful stay!

The last time we came to the Athena Royal Beach Hotel in Paphos, Cyprus, we said to ourselves we would return as we'd enjoyed it so much. So for our silver wedding, we thought it would be the ideal place for a short spring break. How right we were! Despite some unusually rainy weather which you can't fault the hotel for, we were looked after impeccably yet again. All the things we remembered were still the same - the wonderful breakfast and dinner buffets in the Oasis and Pygmalion restaurants. This time, we made more use of the Olive Tree restaurant and had lunch al fresco (and sheltered from the rain), and we dined a la carte in the Aphrodite restaurant. I was pleased to see a slightly better choice of vegetarian options and the catering team were happy to adjust food slightly to accommodate. Lovely to see a beach bar has been built, although we didn't use it, it seems quite the thing to have along the beach-front hotels. We were thrilled that the Dionysus bar is still doing happy hour between 6 and 7pm as we do love their cocktails. Local Keo beer is served at the hotel and how refreshing it is after a long stroll round to the port and back along the beach walk. We managed a long daily walk despite the weather.
The hotel cat was really the sweetest little thing, following us around and even sitting on my lap for ages. For me, having her around increased my enjoyment of my holiday, and I noticed many others too. I think you have to be a cat person to come to Cyprus.
The evening singing entertainment was consistently middle of the road throughout the week, although on evening rather difficult to listen to(!) so we tended not to stay close by, although it was still loud enough to hear from our bedroom on the floor above. It's not a party hotel; being adults only, it tends to attract an older generation and quieter younger couples. Will we be going again? YES! YES! YES!
