Rhodes, Kresten Royal Villas and Spa 05/04-19/04/14. We had been "upgraded" as the hotel we had originally booked was unavailable. Olympic handled this particularly well. I suspect a number of other guests were in the same position and the hotel wasn't really geared up until the second week e.g. not all the bars were open.
As a couple we really enjoyed the hotel but I can imagine folk with young children would have found the facilities limited.
Food in the main restaurant (Athina) was variable first week (possibly not properly geared up) but much improved in the second week.Food in the Greek themed restaurant was very good, the Italian one food was OK one week and bland on the second - it was the same menu!
Entertainment was limited (2 nights) - which suited us. The entertainment we experienced was better than most we have encountered in such hotels
The room was excellent - spacious and very clean and well serviced. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Several were exceptionally good
Overall probably 4 star rather than 5 star but if in the area we would happily go again.
The only real issue we had was that nothing seemed open for the first week - the shops were closed, buses not running etc. Falaraki, for example, was a ghost town. Lindos and Rhodes Town were much more open. The buses started running half way through the second week - however we had decided on car hire for the middle part of our holiday - so the impact on us was negligible. However I can see it would have been problematic if we had wanted to use them to travel around as we have on other Greek islands - so it would have been nice if we had been told nothing much would be open/ running before we arrived.
The Olympic staff were great and although we only saw them at the beginning and the end we were impressed by the welcome and general attitude.
