“travel delay - then Brilliant holiday - then travel...”

written by on 15/07/2013

Just returned from a girly holiday with 3 friends staying at the Achousa, Faliraki, Rhodes

TRAVEL DELAY
On the way out we were given just one days notice that our flights were rescheduled because Olympic had overbooked a plane. We were a bit disappointed that we ended up arriving in Rhodes late instead of the afternoon but more importantly, as my friends had other flights on both sides of the holiday I requested a note be put on our booking so as to have no trouble on the way back...

BRILLIANT HOLIDAY

The family who run the Achousa make it a lovely place to be. Especially Maria who taught us to say our room numbers in Greek, gave us a lift to her favorite restaurant and at 5am is always smiling at the bar.

The location is excellent, about a 10/15 minute, flat, walk to town centre and beach along a good footpath. We only used a taxi (€5) when we had been out dancing all night. There is a bus stop right outside to go to Lindos (€4 each way) or, from other side of the road, Rhodes town (€2 ew) buses are frequent.

We had a couple of problems with our room but we were thanked for reporting them and they were fixed the same day.
The rooms are perfectly clean with a fridge and plenty of storage for clothes etc. Bedding and towels are changed often. one of our rooms was carpeted and one was tiled. AirCon is €40 for the week and well worth it.
The kitchenette was a sink, kettle and two electric rings which we used to cook breakfast. The Greek food is so good it would be a shame not to eat out for dinner.
Food at the hotel is standard pool bar style but they do a great jacket potato.

The hotel was full with people of all ages but never seemed crowded. it was nice and relaxing poolside not "mental" like some places closer to the strip.

TRAVEL DISASTER
A couple of hours before we were due to depart for the airport were we advised that our flights had AGAIN been rescheduled, this time by SEVEN hours, the excuse given was that a "a new plane had been ordered but it had not been built yet".
I can appreciate that our Holiday Rep let us know as soon as they could about the change BUT I sincerely doubt that anyone at Olympic head office had been waiting around until that morning to see if the plane would roll off the assembly line in time to take us home. As such this was, in no way, satisfactory notice about the change and having to sort the onward flights and transport was a sour end to an otherwise fabulous holiday.
