Just come back from a week in Kos. The experience with Olympus was stellar, the hotel not so great, the airline appalling.
If you’re considering flying with Small Planet – just don’t! If you’ve never heard of them before there’s probably a good reason for that – they’re a 6 year old Lithuanian airline chartered by tour operators for the season, so feedback is limited, but if you dig around enough (unfortunately post booking in my case!), you’ll find they’re always delayed. Added to that is a possible language barrier so you get absolutely no information as to what is going on with the delay, and whilst patiently waiting for the information that never comes, (in our case on the tarmac in the UK and in the airport in Greece), you also get no refreshments or sight of any airline personnel! They’re also not great at any form of service in flight and on top of that managed to lose a number of bags… In short, they make Ryan Air look good.
As for the hotel, we stayed in the Michaelangelo Resort and Spa, which although was supposed to be a 5*, was more like a 3-4*. Although there are half board and all-inclusive options, unless you choose the all inclusive, you find your options very limited. Of the restaurants, you are only permitted to use the main buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner; all-inclusive guests are automatically served at the bar before paying guests; you are unable to buy a glass of wine in the restaurant (it’s by the bottle only); and the spa incurs a €10 charge for the day. The hotel itself is arranged over a hill meaning if you’re not relatively mobile or fit– or as one person put it “if you’re not a mountain goat’ you may have problems. There is limited/ no coverage on wi-fi. the fixtures and fittings are falling apart and the rooms are certainly not soundproofed (as demonstrated through the evening ‘entertainment’ – theme nights of firethrowers. disco, saxophonists etc.., and daytime random 80s music).
The service at the hotel is shockingly bad. The members of staff are rude and surly - reception in particular seem like it's a real chore to do anything for you, and the restaurant staff simply ignore you. On the plus side the food is good, and the infinity pool is truly spectacular, but it is not enough to make me choose to stay at this hotel again.
Finally, in terms of Olympus, the reps at the airport and resort were fantastic - they made the whole holiday check-in/transfer/on site care seamless and stress free.
