“ALWAYS take your luggage on connecting flights”

★★★☆☆

written by Liz88 on 23/03/2014

We booked with netflights for indirect flights to Jamaica, flying with Virgin to the USA then Caribbean airlines to JA and on the way back Jet Blue and Virgin again. We checked and double checked that our luggage would arrive in Jamaica with no problems and both times were reassured that they would. Well fast forward over 10 hours and there is no luggage. We finally tracked down someone to help and was told our luggage had been left in America and we would receive our luggage on the next flight which would be delivered to where we were staying later on that day. By 12pm the next day, we had not received our luggage, nor had we received a phone call. After 1 hour on the phone being passed from department to department, we were told we would receive the suitcases within the hour. At 5pm our luggage was finally delivered. My lock had been broken and gift items in my suitcase had been taken along with some bags inside being knifed open. When I called to complain about the luggage being left behind and then being broken into, I was told that next time we should collect our luggage ourselves and check them back in for the connecting flight (Since when has this been the norm???) then no one would try to break in. As it was a different company that dealt with the luggage when in the USA, there was nothing they could do.

I went to Jamaica for a funeral and if I had not had the sense to pack emergency clothes and underwear in my hand luggage, this would have caused even more stress than it had already. It is shocking that considering Netflights sell this route on a frequent basis, they hadn't warned us of the fact that we should collect our luggage and check it back in to ensure it is not left behind. The staff at Kingston Jamaica Airport informed us that luggage is left daily at the airport in the USA as they are so incompetent at transferring belongings so if they are aware of this, why aren't Netflights.

The flights on the way back were fine...
