I find the laterooms website/search engine easy to navigate, with enough information to base a decision on, but not so much that I feel overwhelmed. I've probably used it around a dozen times now.
The consistancy of format makes it possible to compare different places to stay, and select accordingly. You can adjust the lists of accomodation so that they are listed in order of proximity to the centre of a city, or from cheapest to most expensive, for example. You can get an idea of how big a hotel is, as the number of bedrooms is always given. Sometimes there are pictures, but this is dependent upon what the hotel, or the occasional guest with a camera, supplies. The guest reviews are probably the most useful feature, though I sometimes think they reveal more about their writers than they do about the hotel! But there are usually several reviews, so that with a bit of common sense you can arrive at a fair impression of what a place is like.
