It seems that people either love or hate this company and looking at the negative reviews it seems the clients seem disatisfied with Hotels4U only when they have made mistakes or wish to cancel FOC. Just a few questions. Firstly, unless you work for hotels4u, why would you find it disturbing to read bad reviews of this company? Should you not be more disturbed that some people have had what is meant to be an enjoyable time ruined by questionable behaviour that in some cases appears to be quite deceitful? It is even worse when these individuals' e-mails have been ignored for weeks only to then receive a same-day response from their pr department the moment they review hotels4u on this website. If you are a genuine customer with a positive experience that is good for you but it does not mean that some people have not been messed about including a 77 year old man forced to accept alternative accommodation with no forewarning before he and his wife boarded a plane. Regarding your point about terms and conditions, don't you think it is a bit of a cheek to cancel on someone six days before their holiday and pay no penalty or compensation towards the cost of going elsewhere yet if the reverse were to happen and I cancel my booking within 7 days, their t's and c's state I would lose 100% of what I paid? Do you not think a company should adhere to industry good practise and report a cancellation to me as soon as it becomes known not send me a discrete e-mail presumably in the hope that I will not get the message and get on a plane only to end up in a nasty alternative hotel which I was offered (but luckily refused when I read the e-mail by chance and investigated this alternative accommodation's reviews)? This is very dishonest and if you ever experience this kind of treatment I am certain you would also never use them again.

Hi Adam,
I have received the teams 2 sentence reply and I am afraid there is a problem.
Your teams intention to just refund the amount for services we paid you for but which were not provided is a problem to us - to declare this refund "compensation" is quite unbelievable and adds insult to injury. Reimbursement and the actual compensation are not even offered. It still leaves us out of pocket for accommodation we had to find an pay for and it does not give us any compensation for those nightmarish experiences we were put through and which spoilt our holiday.

I am sure Hotels4U can do better than that and I would appreciate your help and a really sincere attempt to sort this matter out satisfactory.

We booked a hotel through this company on 29th jan to 12th feb in cancun and when we turned up they hadn't booked us there but a hotel out of the area we didn't want. We complained everyday but got no where. I'd never have chosen hotel they gave us or paid that price! Also we weren't informed of change so we were terrified as two girls having paid in full and no email telling us where to go. Avoid this company it's a rip off

Hi,
I am afraid not. They only refunded our original payment and that only because the dodgy substitute hotel was out of area.
If things go wrong they will never take responsibility and always put all the blame the hotel. Reading other reviews suggests that they even deliberately mislead you by not booking your hotel in the first place.
I hope you will have a brilliant family holiday....for that it is advisable not to book with hotels4you.

Was chatting via Hotels4U facebook page to their agent Adam. He recommended IPV Beatriz Costa Teguise & Spa Lanzarote and also transfares. Best Hotel we have stayed in outside of the U.K. Weather wasn't brilliant but it was me that chose Lanzarote. We had a mixture of sun and showers, so we used the amazing Spa. Loved it! “Customer service is an absolute disgrace”

After making a complaint and not receiving a decent response - plenty of contradiction and lies from the customer service person, the case was passed to a so called team leader who from the start had no interest in the complaint. Final email I received from the team leader, wasn't actually meant for me but was meant for a colleague in which the so called team leader referred to me sarcastically as her 'welsh friend'. Just so everyone knows, I e-mailed this Adam today and surprisingly he got back to me right away, something his customer services didn't achieve in six weeks! Basically his excuse is that they are just a bookings company so don't blame them. Right so you find out my booking is cancelled ten days before I leave and wait four days to tell me (alongside a spectacular offer of alternative accomodation you have lined up for me as an alternative) and I shouldn't hold it against you? Surprise surprise he makes no mention of 'sorry' or any other term for apology (although he did put a smiley face on the e-mail as though that will somehow make it alright) so I can only assume this is the typical level of contempt they have for their customers as they do not see anything wrong. Well I hope they endure the same stress and expense of finding new customers that I experienced in seeking last minute accomodation. Avoid.

I reserved with them a hotel in Rome for 4 persons for the long weekend of 1st November. The hotel was luxury, in the center of the city. Their price was much better than the one of the other agencies because they had no intention to book this hotel and they never passed the reservation to the hotel itself. It's their common practice. My experience with Hotels4U was also not a good one, spoilt our holiday and left us out of pocket. After writing a review I also had Adams attention "keen to investigate" and now it's back to the customer service team.

They did nothing in more than a month. It's their company policy. They make you pay for a luxury hotel and then send you to a very cheap one. I'm going to complain against them to the Financial Police in UK and Mallorca. May be it's better to do it together. Please write me. We can undertake a common action.

Hi Iordanka, I too suffered at the hands of this ruthless company and would be interested in joining you in your action to redress this appalling behaviour. I am sorry for your experience and only wish I had seen your review before I made the mistake of booking with them. Adam from pr also sent me a similar standard message appearing concerned on this website and then when I gave him the details (which he already had from the e-mail chain going back and forth for six weeks) he just gave an abrupt reply and made it clear he had no intention of doing anything about it. He didn't even apologise just put a smiley face on the e-mail!

Hi Fraze, I moved house in January, from Spain to France, so I was very busy to do anything with them. My booking was made by their Spanish Office, but I realize from the other reviews that the UK office isn't any better. I wanted to make a demand to the Spanish Police, but I don't thing it is possible now when I have not more a Spanish address and nothing to do with Spain. Anyway, if you undertake any action, e.g. BBC watchdog as Fraze proposes, I'll testify.

Don't hold your breath Margaret. This is the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. From reviewing cases like yours it is becoming quite apparent that their strategy appears to be to offer rates much lower than their rivals because they do not honour many of them. In some cases like my own , a last-minute reason was given as to why the accommodation could not be honoured just before the point of departure and in your case not even given this at all. In my case I received no phone call and just got an innocuous looking e-mail (not even marked urgent) telling me six days before I left that the hotel was closed. A member of their team later confirmed in e-mail to me he knew about this closure earlier than this so you really have to consider why information like this would have not have been sent to me as soon as they found out. If I had not checked my e-mail just by chance that day I also would have been arriving at my destination to discover I had been placed somewhere else....namely a nasty grotty hotel that they had lined up for me. It looked awful with bad reviews. My guess is it was substantially cheaper and they would pocket the difference. If you think I am joking then check out these and other reviews on the web. In some cases, customers have reported their original hotel choice never having received their booking. The most insulting aspect is that when you confront this company they think we are all stupid and ignore us until they hope we will go away. Well Margaret I agree with your point about bringing about redress of the situation. Might I suggest trying BBC watchdog in the first instance as I am doing?

We too have had a very similar situation to yours. We booked our family holiday in December and were all set to go in less than 10 days time. We too received an email telling us that the hotel had overbooked. They have moved us to hotel with a lesser star rating, without any compensation. They have moved us (a family of four) from a 2 bedroom with kitchen and living area to a twin room with bunk beds. When we asked for interconnecting rooms they said that they couldn't offer this but could offer us 2 rooms but they may not be together. Our children are aged 3 and 5. Surely this is not safe? After days of arguing with them they have not offered us anything to soften the blow of this fundamental change and I have found their staff to be extremely unhelpful.

I wonder how your complaints progressed? I am currently looking into our options.

Any update would be grateful.

Please forward copies of your booking confirmation plus a description of any problems you experienced with this company to the advertising standards authority in the UK and they are now going to investigate possible breaches of the code by this company.

Also if you could e-mail the same details to the citizens advice direct.
They will ask you for the registered address of the company (so that the relevant Trading Standards department can be informed).

I am now going to contact BBC's Watchdog so hopefully we will get to the bottom of this. If you could again do the same then this would be helpful in resolving this matter once and for all.

“Completely false and misleading hotel description and...”

I would like to make it clear to others that if you make a booking with Hotels4u that apparently your contract is with the hotel and not them, they are only the agents - this means if you have any problems they will apparently not be able to help if the hotel in question is not willing to cooperate. Adam, thanks, but no thanks for your standard form, template response. You should check your emails, as I have been emailing you frequently. We have emailed a few times over the last few months, and you have all the details you need. Don't pretend this is the first time you have heard about this.

I have booked many accommodation only deals with Hotels4U and I have never had a problem or found them to be anything but absolutely helpful and friendly. They allowed me to make changes to my hotel booking last year when I read some bad reviews at no cost. “Horrible and Very Expensive experience”

Arrived at Hotel in Dublin on Sept.15th.2012,armed with Hotel Voucher from hotels4u.com website.Booking had been cancelled.A number of other people had suffered same fate.Phoned.No alternative was on offer.Apology only.
