“Great Value. Lovely Hotel”

★★★★☆

Hotel La Villa, Bastia. We felt the holiday was very good value. We used the Stanstead Parking offered by Fleetway (Jetparks) and this worked well. The flight with Ryanair is basic but is fine for such a short flight (around 2 hours). Perugia airport is a very quiet airport. We were the only commercial plane when we arrived and departed! Surprisingly it has around 6 car hire offices. We used Budget which we booked online and was good value but make sure you take out separate damage excess insurance as the Budget product is very expensive. The Hotel is only around 10 minutes drive from the airport. It is on the outskirts of Bastia. Although on a roundabout junction of fairly minor roads (ie not dual carriageways) it is quite busy. Our room was a good size with good size shower room and nicely decorated. It has a room safe and a fridge which was handy for our pre dinner in room tipple! The TV only plays Italian channels ie no BBC news etc so we left it on a Classic Gold TV which played 80's / 90's music. Only minor points are that there are no in room tea / coffee making facilities and you tend to get woken up by traffic noise in the morning. The gardens and pool area are very nice and well screened from the road. Breakfast is a buffet in the indoor eating area. It was good with cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurts, ham cheese etc, cakes. We ate dinner most nights on the covered veranda overlooking the gardens which was very pleasant area. Dinner is fairly basic but totally adequate. Staff were all friendly but staffing levels are low ie you might wait some time for your meal in the evening and don't expect there to always be a Barman or Receptionist on hand - but it was never a problem and only to be expected when you consider the cost of the holiday. You can walk into the centre of Bastia but it's a bit dodgy as there are areas with no pavement and the road is quite busy. Assisi is only around 4 miles away and well worth a visit. When we visited in September we found it to be pretty quiet on the roads generally and parking was easy in all the places we visited. Parking charges are reasonable. Hope this hasn't bored everyone but I had no idea what to expect when I booked the holiday so hopefully this will give people a bit of an idea. Overall a great holiday, nice hotel conveniently situated.
