“Lisbon City Break”

Written on: 07/03/2013

Excellent service from Fleetway Travel from the time of booking with helpful reminders along the way. The Hotel Turim Lisboa was excellent value with very friendly helpful and informative staff. We did suffer from an attempted pickpocket within the first few hours of arrival - the same can happen in any major city at the moment - luckily nothing was stolen and we didn't let it spoil our overall holiday experience. Lisbon is spread out via various districts which all seem to have things to see and do with still lots of restaurants, pastalerias and cafes even though we were told many had closed down due to the economic crisis. If your visit includes a Sunday I wouldn't buy the Lisboa Card as lots of museums and tourist attractions are free on a Sunday - still pay for entry to the Castle but great views of the city. Usual sightseeing buses operate and are good value. We used the Lisboa Sightseeing Company but it seemed that Grayline had more buses and were more frequent. A good tip is to buy the daily travel card from any Metro Station for approx 6 euros which gives all day travel on the Metro, the famous Trams and Buses and I think Ferries. We would recommend the Belem district with it's Tower as long as you don't mind spiral staircases, the Ceremonial Coach Museum and the Monastery with Vasco Da Gama Tomb. Lisbon has many fine old buildings with many in disrepair and derelict but don't let it distract you from what the city has to offer. In the main the Lisboans are very friendly and helpful. Be extra vigilante with your wallet and possessions when travelling about and visiting the many tourist attractions but you could say that for any major European City. Enjoy
