“Staff canceled my flight without my authorization!!!”

DO NOT USE FAREBOOM. I purchased a ticket through the site. When I called to simply inquire about the details of their cancellation policy, the agent canceled my flight without my authorization. I was not notified of this at any time during the call and did not receive a cancellation notice until the following day. “Bite and Shift - Stay Away. ”

Their schema is very simple and has few steps: 1. pretend they have a good price so you bite 2. pretend they cannot charge your credit card 3. inform you that while they tried to charge your card the prices went up 4. shift you purchase by palming cheaper tickets off on you, that have more connections, different dates, inconvenient flight times, like late night or earlier morning. “Criminal Theft by FareBoom”

I attempted to buy a ticket, but was refused unless I signed a "Credit Authorization Form." I was given a deadline of 4 PM despite telling them during repeated phone calls that I was traveling and could not do so. I was repeatedly told that despite copies of my driver's license and credit care the purchase could not be completed without that signed form. We reviewed this case and conclude that a serious error was made on our part in handling of this payment. The customer did in fact submit sufficient proof of credit card ownership to establish that the payment for a third party passenger was in fact legitimate.
The ticket cancellation that is the subject of this complaint was in fact done due to a misunderstanding after our staff thought that the cardholder had changed his mind regarding the purchase, by saying over the phone “Please cancel my ticket”.
The cardholder correctly noticed that we did in fact issue the purchased ticket after he submitted to us copies of the credit card and bank billing statement that had established cardholder knowledge of the transaction. This is why we charged his card and issued a rebate at the same time. Our staff then requested from the customer to send to us a signed credit card charge authorization form that was not necessary. After the cardholder failed to return the signed form and after he asked that we cancel the reservation we did so. The request for the form and the resulting cancellation were most regrettable.
The ticket we cancelled did not result in any charges to the customer and the temporary credit card authorization amount is being released back automatically when we void the ticket.
Due to this incident we immediately updated our policy to handle such rare cases of third party payments with more sensitivity to customer needs and expectations, when a credit card purchase is supported by documents proving that the cardholder is in fact authorizing the purchase for a passenger other than herself.
At Fareboom we implement very strict credit card fraud screening procedures. This helps keep our fares low by ensuring that attempts at fraud are eliminated at the source. To illustrate the problem a single fraudulent transaction wipes out our gross profit on about 40 sold tickets. Unfortunately, these procedures result in occasional cardholder aggravation that we deeply regret. We work constantly to improve and fine tune our screening procedures to avoid such incidents as much as possible.

We apologize to the customer and offer a $50 future discount for any destination worldwide in case they decide to use it.

“Worst company ever!”

This company likes to offer good rates. Then they will find other ways to charge you more. The charges to change a flight are astronomical. We purchased the flight insurance, but they found a loop hole to deny the refund. They wanted $839 for two of us to change our flights. This was on top of the $2500 we had already paid. “Deceptive Business Practices”

My order number O-2B175318 was purchased on 9/23/2014 for travel on 1/20/2015 from SFO to BKK for $811. On December 23, 2014 I had surgery for a detached retina and was not allowed to fly for 8 weeks. I cancelled the flight with both United Airlines and Fareboom. Fareboom sent an email stating my non-refundable ticket was cancelled but there would be a $400.00 change fee and any fare difference. To give you a better understanding our website offers two different type of fares; negotiated and published fares. The difference between these fares is that a negotiated fare is relatively inexpensive, is a lot more restrictive when it comes to changes or cancellations and because they are offered by the airline’s sales department these fares and rules are not available to the airline’s customer service agents. A published fare can be less strict, the fare may sometimes be a little higher but the rules and fares are available to all agencies and to the airline’s customer service agents. When you purchased your ticket, you actually purchased a negotiated fare which means that if you need to make changes to your reservation we must adhere to the same type of fare and follow the airline’s mandated fees and applicable fare difference. If your original fare had been a published fare, we could have easily used the fare you specified in your complaint. We would like to invite you to contact our customer service department where our agents will check with you together alternative dates within the same type of fare that may incur a lower fare difference.

We wish to inform you that Fareboom neither changed your travel dates nor stole your money as you falsely state in your review. Unfortunately, your reservation was subject to an airline schedule change that occurred about 45 days after you purchased your ticket. As a travel agent Fareboom has no control over airline mandated schedule changes, and this makes us no different from any other online or offline agency.

We filed for your full refund with the airline on November 6 and the refund was processed on December 15 due to an airline delay. The money has been returned to your original credit card.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the airline schedule change, however such events are sometimes unavoidable due to airline rescheduling decisions.

At Fareboom we investigated the matter by working with your card issuing bank and determined that the delay was caused by the fact that you closed the credit card account that you used to make the original purchase. In such case the money cannot post automatically to the closed account. We talked to your bank and asked them to ensure that the pending refund is either released to your new account or you are issued a check.
