“Worst company ever!”

This company likes to offer good rates. Then they will find other ways to charge you more. The charges to change a flight are astronomical. We purchased the flight insurance, but they found a loop hole to deny the refund. They wanted $839 for two of us to change our flights. This was on top of the $2500 we had already paid. Yesterday 3/25 We booked a trip to Panama on 8/4 for 1 child and 2 adults. “Deceptive Business Practices”

My order number O-2B175318 was purchased on 9/23/2014 for travel on 1/20/2015 from SFO to BKK for $811. On December 23, 2014 I had surgery for a detached retina and was not allowed to fly for 8 weeks. I cancelled the flight with both United Airlines and Fareboom. Fareboom sent an email stating my non-refundable ticket was cancelled but there would be a $400.00 change fee and any fare difference. We apologize for any inconvenience caused throughout your experience with Fareboom. We take our customers very seriously and would like to assist you in any way possible. To give you a better understanding our website offers two different type of fares; negotiated and published fares. The difference between these fares is that a negotiated fare is relatively inexpensive, is a lot more restrictive when it comes to changes or cancellations and because they are offered by the airline’s sales department these fares and rules are not available to the airline’s customer service agents. A published fare can be less strict, the fare may sometimes be a little higher but the rules and fares are available to all agencies and to the airline’s customer service agents. When you purchased your ticket, you actually purchased a negotiated fare which means that if you need to make changes to your reservation we must adhere to the same type of fare and follow the airline’s mandated fees and applicable fare difference. If your original fare had been a published fare, we could have easily used the fare you specified in your complaint. We would like to invite you to contact our customer service department where our agents will check with you together alternative dates within the same type of fare that may incur a lower fare difference.

To begin with, I have to mention that I have this tricky last name that I have misspelled all the time. And FAREBOOM helped me fix the problem, when I bought a ticket and got denied boarding in the airport due to misspelled name. We wish to inform you that Fareboom neither changed your travel dates nor stole your money as you falsely state in your review. Unfortunately, your reservation was subject to an airline schedule change that occurred about 45 days after you purchased your ticket. As a travel agent Fareboom has no control over airline mandated schedule changes, and this makes us no different from any other online or offline agency.

We filed for your full refund with the airline on November 6 and the refund was processed on December 15 due to an airline delay. The money has been returned to your original credit card.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the airline schedule change, however such events are sometimes unavoidable due to airline rescheduling decisions.

At Fareboom we investigated the matter by working with your card issuing bank and determined that the delay was caused by the fact that you closed the credit card account that you used to make the original purchase. In such case the money cannot post automatically to the closed account. We talked to your bank and asked them to ensure that the pending refund is either released to your new account or you are issued a check. In case you did not receive the refund please talk to your card issuing bank or contact our refunds department for further assistance in working with your bank. Booking with FareBoom was a bit of a pain, but once I was all booked, I was happy. I had to jump through some hoops to confirm I was authorizing my credit card transaction (seems like to a guard against fraud), but I was trying to book quickly at work so it was inconvenient. I have never had such a horrible experience with ANY travel agency then with this one. Book a $1,000 last minute flight with confirmation and insurance only to find my reservation canceled right before I departed. I purchased a ticket to the Philippines and I need to change my date because of the severe flooding they just had. Dear Customer,

There appears to be significant confusion as to what are the limits of Fareboom ability to change your return date at minimum cost. The purchased airline ticket is subject to airline industry standard change fees that are not imposed by Fareboom, but by the airline. You are indeed required to pay the change fee and fare difference in full at the time we reissue your ticket and this is a standard airline requirement. Fareboom makes no money in the process.

Your total change fees are as follows: 400 USD airline penalty and 70 USD fare difference. Your statement regarding a 900 USD fee is invalid, and this amount was certainly not communicated to you by any Fareboom agent.

Since you purchased travel insurance you could be eligible for a change fee reimbursement due to inclement weather that was apparently the reason for your inability to board the flight on the original date. Simply contact Travel Guard, give them your insurance policy number and explain the situation.

Finally, your statement that Fareboom will “rip you off and lie to you” is lacking in good taste and it has no basis, especially since you were advised of your options in full at all times. It is somewhat difficult for our agents to work with individuals who expect us to circumvent airline imposed rules for personal financial gain, and additionally use abusive language in the process.

We hope that you are able to work with Travel Guard insurance to reimburse the necessary change fees and wish you a safe return flight.
