Emirates flight via Dubai was just so easy and straight forward it was a great way to start. Far cry from when we lived in Borneo in the 70's and 80's. The Concorde Hotel in Singapore was ideal. Centrally located with multiple bus route at the front door and metro just a couple of hundred meters away. Clean room, efficient helpful staff, VG breakfast and excellent Wi Fi in room. Singapore can be very expensive so you have to shop around for good price hawker style food.
After a week flew to Penang and Golden sands hotel. Nearly full hotel but so much space at pools, garden and beach that only time we felt slightly crowded was if we took late (8.30 on) breakfast, so go early. excellent Wi Fi reception, VG (no - excellent) staff and large sea view room, excellent all round with heaps of local food stall just along from Hotel. Especial note to "The Living Room" see trip advisor! Georgetown very interesting but busy and noisy after beach, Recommend a tour as the historic side is spread all over town. Penang Hill a bit tired but good views.
On, on by bus (best way) to Cameron Highlands. Lovely big hotel (Hermitage) but catered predominantly for Japanese. I am not at all against Japan but the choice of food was limited unless you are Japanese and an advertised library was full of Japanese books. Staff, very indiferent and overall impression was a sole-less hotel. It was a good location in the south end of town, 10 mins walk. North of Tanah Rata it just gets dirty and rough. We wanted to go to a tea plantation and regrettably took a tour from town. We live in a cottage called Rose cottage and next to a strawberry field for the inclusive visits to a strawberry and rose farm were not for us but included regardless. So was a butterfly farm with very sad conditions for the butterfly's and inspects in appalling conditions. Go to plantation as individual and take a proper staff tour, not the 30 minute all in tour bus.
Finally, again by bus (very good) to KL. The Federal Hotel was good but make sure you are not on the side where there is a nearly all night music/food hall next door. Very loud. Revolving restaurant was tired but plenty of local places to eat close. Highly recommend the Hop on-hop off bus which runs past hotel. best way to see town and especially Central Market. Flight from KL was VG but a long 4+ hr stop-over in Dubai in the middle of the night is a pain.
Overall the Dial a flight planning support and booking was excellent, efficient and made for a really relaxing side to the holiday. Thankyou to those involved.
