I made a reservation to Ensenada Mexico, on their cancellation police states I could cancel a day before my arrival before the 18 hour. I had to cancel and did it with in their stipulations. I still got charge for it. had try to get a refund for the past 2 week even after having different reps agreeing and seeing the mistake from their side. after reviewing the case they keep denying the refund. I will be calling my credit card and have them open a case.no transparency from this company at all.

Compre en despegar.com, imprimi mi ticket de avion lima-ayacucho por LCperu. las intruccines decian que ese era mi ticket. En el chek-in de LC peru Guillermo me dijo "no tiene reservacion y no asiento." Que LCperu no tenia nada que ver relacionado a despegar.com. No me ayudo. Me despidio a que me queje hacia la oficina de ventas. Fui a la oficina de ventas de LCPeru y la chica me dijo que "a ver si el supervisor se apiada y aprueba mi embarque." (pero yo pague, usaron mi tarjeta de credito, Y TENIA TICKET IMPRESO). Como puede occurir eso? Y encima me trataron mal, sin respeto, sin ninguna disculpa. Senti impotencia, humillado. Como si yo pidiera un inmenso favor. Si hubiera sabido la falta de etica laboral y servicio al cliente mejor hubiera comprado en LAN.

I booked several flights within Peru with Despegar.com The 1st flight all went well nothing to complain. I get to the 2nd flight i booked and i am told that we bought tickets for residents only and we need to pay double the price of the ticket we already paid. Obviously we were quite upset by the news especially since Despegar didnt do a good job of pointing out such an important think in the booking process. The only disclosure they have under the price in small caps is: Not Valid for foreigners. What does that even mean??? If its not valid why are you letting me purchase it? Should it have said not valid and these extra charges will apply then yest that would raise a red flag. They couldn't even use some sort of bold or bright colors to flag the damn notification. No mention of it in any email confirmation or any booking confirmation. I tried to contact their customer support to get my money back and i spent a few good days searching their website for a number to call. I emailed them and i got no answer. Finally as a last resource i contacted them on facebook. Someone answered and told me they submitted a complaint for me. Heard nothing from them, got no email notification of any kind. During the weekend i got an email on Saturday that they tried calling me at the strangest number ever i have no clue how they got that number. And on Sunday after obviously an exhaustive attempt to reach me they just closed my complaint. So on monday i called them. Finally managed to talk to a person after some wait. I was greeted by the same old script type of conversation. I tried to explain to the person what my issue was but they were not having it, they kept on with the script. I even asked to speak to a manager. Nothing worked. So we ended in that they opened yet another complaint for me.I was asked what my correct phone number was and was assured someone will call me within 48 hrs. 24 hrs later, no call and i receive an email that my complaint was yet again closed and that i will not be refunded the money that i had to pay extra because Despegar is not able to provide the right type of user experience via their website to its customers. Through the many complaints that i had filed with them i was sent quite a few surveys sent. They cant even get their surveys right. They restrict the amount of characters in a survey so you cannot share ones negative experience. I decided to email them my real survey...here's to hoping someone will actually read it and take note.

I booked an hotel with Despegar.com few weeks ago and I never receive an invoice. the only way to contact them is a chat and I never had answer from them.

I was looking for a hotel in Naples, Fla., and Despegar offered one for a competitive price and good ratings. When we got to the Fort Meyers airport, we couldn't get the gps to locate the hotel. This was because the hotel was not in Naples, but another town, another address and a different name, an hour's drive away!! We called Despegar and the first agent I spoke to put me on hold and never returned to the phone (at 11pm). After calling back, I was able reach an agent at Desegar who explained that the hotel was not in Naples, but in Punta Gorda, had been sold, and had a new name! The hotel was under construction, poorly staffed and very dirty. Needless to say, I would advise anyone to stay away from Despegar!

This is the worst experience. When you search for hotel room they indicate room availability, charge your credit card and then there is no room. Even though they charged your card you do not even receive an email with any type of number to use to contact them. When you find away to contact someone they are of no help. The worst experience ever

I can personally tell you that Despegar.com is not a good company to deal with I am a Hotel Owner & I see consumers complaining & now you will hear the same from me They are very un professional, actually quite pathetic & I am amazed they are in business In addition, they charge Hotels a 25% commission, so hotels are raising their prices to cover this cost, & they dont care for they make even more while in the end game YOU the consumer PAYS for it Dearly Yo are Always better off Booking Direct, you will save 10- 15% & the Hotel will make 10--15% more it's a WIN WIN To hell with the OTAs ( online travel agencies) expedia.com, despegar.com, etc. Good luck to all and remember BOOK DIRECT !!!!!!!

This company is the worst ever! Totally ruined our once in a lifetime vacation. We arrived at our hotel only to find out that we had no reservations. We book 60 days in advance. The hotel had told this company they could not fill up our reservation. This company failed to relay that message to us. The town in New Zealand was totally sold out. We had to move to another town just to get a room for the evening. I cannot believe that any company could operate in this matter. Thank you for totally blowing the biggest vacation of our lives.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. A few weeks prior to my trip to Bangkok, I booked a night at a hotel through Despegar.com, and I received a voucher confirmation from them that stated my hotel was guaranteed. When I arrived in Bangkok, it took the hotel 2 hours to confirm that a few weeks earlier they had denied Despegar.com's rate and had notified Despegar.com of that fact. They told me that my travel agency should have contacted me, which Despegar.com never did. With only 24 hours to spend in Bangkok, I found myself in the late afternoon, having wasted several hours and with no place to stay thanks to Despegar.com. When I followed up with Despegar.com, they had no idea that the hotel had cancelled the reservation and they made me submit my receipt at the hotel where I ended up staying before they would refund my money. Ten days later after submitting my receipt, they emailed that my original money had been refunded. No apology and no effort was made to accommodate their terrible service and the time and convenience they cost me. I urge you to avoid using them at all cost.

I believe this is a front for a drug cartel. Took my money and sent incorrect reservations to motel, motel said they would make changes but then they charged me too. In essence I was charge twice for one room. Emails and phone to Despegar reassured me it would be fixed, it was not and now despegar will not communicate with me at all.

Despegar will take your money. We made a reservation for a Hotel using Despegar. The quote they gave me was US$50 per night. However, when they charged it, they did it in Chilean pesos resulting in almost double the price. It is a currency scheme. I have called several times the merchant and they have not been able to honor the price they offered me. It is currently under dispute. If you decide to use Despegar, get a screen shot of every step because they request that to honor what they offer. I won't ever use Despegar again.

Charged my card and never contacted the hotel with my reservation. Terrible travel site, no one spoke English, hung up on me multiple times, and again charged my card $175 that I cannot get back. The day of the trip I was going in I called the hotel to make sure my reservation was there and they said they have nothing reserved for me nor have seen any attempt. I called this site to confirm my hotel and it told me to " enjoy my stay" well I sure enjoyed scrambling to find a new hotel close to the location of where I was supposed to stay! I payed for a new hotel and a non existent hotel that this horrible travel site "set up" for me. Really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Never use this site unless you want to pull you hair out with stress and get charged for imaginary hotels.

Tried to cancel within the allotted time frame through the link they sent me in the email. Of course it did not work. I had to call their phone number and NOBODY spoke in English. I was hung up on multiple times & got no where. Asked a spanish speaking friend to help me out & they said they would send me an email "with their decision" in a couple of hours. I am sure that was their way of getting me off the phone because I NEVER received an email. I am in the process of disputing the charge on my credit card. Stay clear from this website!!!!

A warning to anyone trying to make a reservation with Despegar.com. They have terrible customer service and their "72 hour cancellation policy without penalty" is a joke. They would not allow me to cancel a reservation that was more than 72 hours in advance. Terrible Terrible Terrible.

I made a hotel reservation through Despegar.com and was attracted by the cheaper price. I had to cancel the reservation and did it within the 72 hour time-frame. Despite the fact that they confirmed the cancellation via email, they have refused to give me a refund. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

They charged me twice for a ticket. When I call, I have to wait for 30 minutes. I have called them several times and they never solve anything. They said the money is in the airline company, then they said I have to make a request, but at the end they don't solve anything. Bad company. For me it sound like they just want to take your money.

The site showed a Las Vegas hotel room and fare available for the selected dates. Proceeded with the reservation process, and after providing all VISA info and pressing the confirm button, a new message appears stating that the room selected is not available and it offers a more expensive option or a cancel transaction option. The cancel option was selected and a new message appeared stating that no charges were made to VISA and the transaction was successfully cancelled. Next day my bank statement reflected a charge made by DESPEGAR.COM. Customer service was contacted and no trace of the transaction could be found and kept asking for the order confirmation number. I told them that no confirmation nor order number was issued since no transaction was made, still the charges were applied to my VISA. They referred to another customer service desk and still waiting for an answer. 1. They advertise rooms they do not have available 2. Fraudulent charges are made even if you decline the transaction. 3. Customer support is non existent

We tried to book a Hotel in Bogotá, Colombia with despegar. Every thing looked nice until we wanted to pay with credit card. After filling in all de needed fields, the following page did not load. Hence, no chance to se if the credit card has been or not. Anyway, we received a confirmation via e-mail, that we would receive a voucher within 24h. instead of the voucher, I received an e-mail which said, that they were not able to charge the credit card. Anyway I don't want to get too long. Another credit card has been charged later on even after the page showed the same problem again. I sent them e-mails, tried to call them multiple times, without any response. Never ever book or trust despegar.com. If something goes wrong, you can't contact them and they are away with your money!!

- NEVER USE DESPEGAR!!! Please check the reviews on the internet I will never buy from them again. They post fake photos of a hotel, I make a reservation, arrive and those rooms just do not exist, when we showed up to the hotel they said they did not have those type of rooms. i called them they said it is the hotel's problem cause they sent the photos and it is not their fault and they cannot fix that nor modify my reservation nor cancel it. I said I had payed for something that doesnt exist! and Im standing out of a hotel with no place to go.. They say well. We will have to call you back later....of course never did...We had to find another hotel and it ruined our travel itinerary for that day. We called and emailed Despegar but they never offer a solution other than repeating: We have to charge you for it, it is the policy. There is nothing else we can do. Then the hotel management told me :ah! We always have trouble with despegar.com, they just leave their costumers on their own after they pay....( sigh) Never again. Please save your time and money.
