Booked BM Hostel on 17 June but when we arrived at about 5pm, we discovered that the hostel did not keep our reservation. We were told that we did not pay 50% of the room price so the booking is not confirmed. When is it a policy of booking.com to pay before arrival? The credit card number is given to confirm the booking so that should be enough, right? Any way, we had to look for another hostel after wasting 2 hours at BM arguing about the ridiculousness of that rule.

I'm sorry to hear about this. In some situations, a hotel may need a deposit in order to hold your reservation. You can find this deposit listed under the "Conditions" column by hovering your mouse over the blue question mark and you can also find it in your confirmation email after booking a reservation under the "Room Details" section. If you could provide me your booking confirmation number I can investigate the situation further.
