“Overbooking on your site !”

Hello,

I was very disappointed yesterday, when I received a phone call from the hotel I had booked on "Booking.com", as they had to cancel my reservation : the room had been booked twice !

The hotel said it was their fault, but I wonder how this mistake was possible?
I have already booked a number of times on Booking.com and never had the slightest problem.
I must admit, the Hotel was very correct, polite and apologized ten times. But the fact was : my room was cancelled. They offered to look for another hotel room for me somewhere else, and indeed found one.So they really went out of their way to solve the problem.
But the reason I am writing this review is to understand what happened ? And to avoid this from happening again to somenone else.
