MaccaMal's review of Trans Pennine Express

“Wish we'd driven...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MaccaMal on 13/08/2012

We travelled to Edinburgh from Liverpool using Transpennine thinking it would be more relaxing than five hours in the car. How wrong we were. These trains are simply not up to standard for long journeys. They are cramped and the design of the table means the table leg is in the way of any normal sitting position so we ended up sitting twisted and arrived with bad backs! Storage for luggage is woefully inadequate so bags are piled up in the aisles with passengers having to get up and move them every time anyone tried to get past. The carriage was dirty and stuffy and the horrid toilets best avoided although this isn't easy on a journey of more than 3 hours especially with children. The return journey was only better in the sense that we knew how awful it was going to be and at least found space for our bags as the service started in Edinburgh.Next time we'll either drive or take the Virgin service to Glasgow and cut across.
