I bought a ticket, then needed to change the date by 1 day, which I couldn't, so I had to buy a new ticket, then was promised a refund. The refund process is very hard to fathom, but appeared to be working, so I left it, then wondered why I'd not got any money back. When I phoned them, I was told that I had needed to write in to them with the ticket in order to get the refund - absolute rubbish for an online company - and I'm now down £150. “Tesco vouchers now only valid for 6 months.”

I checked with RSH several years ago and was told that these vouchers do not expire. Recently I found all my vouchers have disappeared from my account and that "This has been the case for some time and is available via the terms and conditions when converting your Tesco vouchers." “unflexible in the venet of a mistake”

I've been using these guys for some years, but today I stop. Even though I consider myself a capable web user, I still find the booking process a little difficult. I suffer with a medical condition resulting in poor memory retention although I don't let this affect my life. After booking a journey, I managed to book the same one twice by mistake - they would offer no refund even though I rang them within 2 mins of making the booking. “Poor Customer Service”

Up until recently I would have given a higher rating, but that is because I have had no problems. Tickets always arrived on time and no reason to contact customer service apart from confusion over using vouchers (even then I wasn't confident with their answer). I used to use another company but was tempted by Red Spotted Hankey's promotions for £10 off which were often in the newspapers and do think it's great that can use Tesco Clubcard points to purchase discounted tickets. Red Spotted Hanky have no interest in their customers or the poor service their staff provide. Each time I correspond with them I am given conflicting information. I have asked them to investigate the incorrect information I was provided with about booking fees (to my financial detriment), but they have said none of their telephone calls are recorded...despite them previously advising me they do record their telephone calls. RSH is fine if you book on line, collect tickets & everything is OK etc. However, if you hit a snag, like I have, their customer service is awful. The ticket machine failed to print the tickets & said consult station staff. They were not able to print tickets either. After contacting RSH they said they will re-issue the tickets under a different booking reference. Four days later & they still haven't done this & have no idea when I can get the tickets. I booked a ticket which I had to cancel and did so within their terms and conditions. They told me I could have a refund when I rebooked and when I tried to do so they refused. They say they'll refund the difference if you see your train tickets else where cheaper. If you check in the terms and conditions it says they will only do that at their own discretion. “Travelers outside of the UK, beware!”

Using an American credit card flagged a "Pending Payment" which essentially means they get to let my money float in the clouds somewhere until they refund it in five to seven business days. Our bank could not cancel the transaction without cancelling the card, and since my daughter (who was already in the UK by this time) needed it for the rest of her trip. “Money Saving and Easy”

On my journey, redspottedhanky was over £20 cheaper than Trainline or National Rail. The website is straightforward and easy to use. I ordered the tickets at 3.00 p.m.on Monday and they arrived the following day by first class post at 09.30. How's that for service? It seems to me that some of the criticism on this site is unjustified. Whether it is airlines or any other cheap internet site, if you make stupid errors, things are unlikely to be sorted out easily or without cost. That's how life… Read Full Review

I think Twitcher001 is in a right muddle here. I have absolutely nothing to do with this company whatsoever nor do any of my family. I use RSH regularly because it is nearly always that bit cheaper than Trainline or National Rail.
RSH send me my tickets by first class post and they normally arrive the very next day. There is NO £10 charge. Indeed there is NO charge whatsoever. There is NO charge for using your credit card either. The price of the ticket is all you pay. I have used RSH about six times now with no problems whatsever and the tickets have always arrived by first class post within fort eight hours of ordering.

Yes, I've been using them weekly for the past 6months and was very happy, until yesterday when a 'standard/return' journey was issued as a 1st Class Single. When I asked for an exchange to that requested, I was informed it would cost £10 to do so. It seems to me that a call to Trading Standards is in order.

When I asked for a copy of my booking that 'clearly showed' my alternative choice, the email I received said nothing of the class of travel, nor whether it was one way or a return, just the amount paid from my card.

Customer service? Don't make me laugh!

I made a booking through Red Spotted Hanky and a railcard discount was added to my ticket. I did not realise this until after I paid for my ticket, when I called up to cancel my ticket I was told I was not entitled to a refund as my ticket cost was under £10. The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 states that you are entitled seven working days starting the day after you receive your goods to cancel. Be warned, customer services are very good at promising results, and from what I heard from their own employees they know the website has failings.Yet despite this they still do nothing even after a labourious escalation. They did some thing similar to me. Get in touch with the office for trading standard. What they're doing is misrepresenting goods they are selling. That is illegal.
