“Second dandy just as good as the first”

★★★★★

written by on 25/03/2013

Now in my third year of owning the dandy six and my admiration is still growing,so much so that with some fellow owners we started a forum just for dandy owners Dandycampers is the name. I never got round to having the insulation done but did a DIY job explanation of how on the Dandycampers forum. If you have ever arrived home with wet tent or folding camper and had to dry them you will appreciate the pack away and leave benefit of the dandy camper. There are plenty of good ones about we run an for sale thread on the dandycampers forum, the good ones start from as low as £500. Why not pop in and ask questions but sorry at dandycampers we only talk about dandy campers.

written by Dandy_Forum on 29/03/2012

The Dandy Trailer tent is fantastic, a range of models, and ages, so you can find one that you can afford. With the cult following and help from the Dandy Forum dandyforum.co.uk you get not just a trailer tent but the Dandy experience. No worries about packing away wet, with the Dandy its made from a pvc materiel, and will not rot, unlike canvas Get along to one of the Dandy Forum meets and chat to other owners, who will show you there Dandy, and how smart they are A Dandy is for all year camping not just for summer!!

On our second dandy now started with a 1988 delta, fully insulated walls and roof was out in all weathers in that one, had outside temperatures of -8 but snug and warm all night with a 650w convector heater.Just changed earlier this year to an older 6 berth, this one has no insulation in the walls so its going back to the factory to be done.
All weather, All season, put away wet with no rot camper, there is nothing better.

we love our dandy designer (5 berth) it is 13 years old and the pvc is like new,It is easy to store, light to tow and can be put up in 10 mins also can be put away wet, very cheap to maintain, also one bed can be left up through the day and curtained off without messing about with cushions, when the headlining is clipped into place it feels like a bedouin tent, we have a movelite xl awning and when that is joined up to it it is very spacious highly recomended

i agree that the dandy's are a super camper and in my opinion there is only one fault, and that is the pvc awnings are to heavy to handle.I would be interested to know how you attatch your movelite awning to your dandy as I am considering one for my delta?

“Bought my first (1991) Dandy Designer folding...”

★★★★★

written by on 13/02/2010

Bought my first (1991) Dandy Designer folding camper/trailer tent last year. When camping late September, almost all other campers spoke of chilly or sleepless nights due to the dipping night temperatures - but we were toasty warm!! The insulated walls/roof have far better thermal values than canvas and hold in heat from the gas heater (even on low) beautifully. Even before we put heater on late at night, we noticed the surprising warmth inside Dandy compared to outside. After 19 years of regular use and folding away wet (they said) at the end of the season by the original owners, there is not a bit of rot or mould on pvc roof/walls.

A bit confusing to errect the first couple of times, and heavy for a petite woman to put up alone, but well worth it!! We did not try the awning since it looked a bit more fiddly and heavy for the fist season of Dandying, but online instructions suggest colour-taping the poles to make this easier.

Overall, we are Dandy converts!!!

written by on 08/02/2010

My Parents have had 2 Dandy's over the past 30 years and i was brought up on caravan holidays in the Dandy, so it was only natural that when my Kids came along, we bought a Dandy. Best Folding Caravan bar none. There is no canvas on these units and both the unit walls and roof are made from a very durable PVC. (my unit is 16 years old and not one rip) this means that you can put the unit down in the rain and not have to worry about "canvas rot". The two most important points when buying a second hand Unit are. 1) buy one with an original awning and 2) Get it serviced by Ian and Riva Dandy, he'll make it as good as new.

i bought a dandy 4 berth trailer tent last year. It was first purchased in 1972, is this the oldest one still on the road? The previous owner has replaced the roof on both the tent and the awning. It is difficult to put up. However the matteress have stood the test of time and are very comfortable (I've had back problems for years and I am find very few beds comfortable to sleep in). The tent area is large enough to move around with ease and so is the awning. We are still using the original cooker that was purchased with the tent and that works perfectly ok. The tent maintains a comfortable tempreture whatever the weather. I would definately recommend a Dandy.

i sold a brand new bailey senator twin axle i had for nine months and replaced it with a 1990 dandy destiny 6 berth and im more than happy with the dandy.these are for campers not for people who owe the bank everything they own.one of the hinges on the caravan broke,it took 7 weeks and hundreds of phone calls.i lost 1 of the lock down clips on the dandy,1 phone call to dandy and the clip arrived 3 days later.the service from dandy is 110%.we have as much room, cosyness warmth, easy to tow, simple to put up,goes in the garage.how can you (beat that)

bought our dandy this year and love it . we have the blue and white dart , looks good ,and the best part is putting it away when it's wet .
we have a new awning with ours which look's better than the old ones, would recomend the dandy to anyone ,also put wood flooring down it gives the floor more support and it is easier to keep clean .
all we need now is to buy another skirt and we are all done .we love our dandy and would never have any other trailer tent now .buy one you will be amazed , and you would never settle for anything less than the best which in my opinion is the dandy.

Bought the Dandy Trailer Tent last year and its great. Away most weekends no matter what the weather. Have had caravans, tents, motor homes and trailer tents but find this the best all-rounder. Easy to erect but find awning heavy and a chore but once erected its got lots of space and comfort. Fully waterproof, windproof, warm in winter, cool in summer. Can be erected from arriving on site to starting bbq in 30 mins maximum. Certainly recommend, maybe pricey but built to last.

I have a Dandy Delta, blue and white Trailer Tent. Go for one with an awning as they are hard to obtain later on. Have been in heavy storms and high winds, the feeling you get looking out at people trying to peg down there tents while you have your kettle on makes the whole dandy experience. I brought mine on ebay I replaced both tyres and one rivet to the inner tent and thats it. Often go away in winter also with my kids they love it. It's cheap warm and comfy what else can you really ask for. Get out there and give it a go, all the fun of camping without getting flooded out!

Once you have put the Dandy Trailer Tent camper up a couple of times it is really easy to do just remember the strings which are attached as these are a good help. I have folded camper up single handed in half an hour and i am woman in fiftys and not in best of health but it is really easy. Warm inside double glazed windows and secure double glazed door, what can i say but buy one you wont be disappointed.

We got an old dandy last year, it is lovely and warm. it does not rot or smell musty due to poor weather. ours is only a 4 berth but the 6 berth ones are much bigger. looking to upgrade to a bigger one soon when we find one for reasonable price. they hold the value because they are quality better than canvas trailer tents.

I found the Dandy Trailer Tent is easy to erect, even in the rain!
Snug and warm with no draughts
Easily cleaned Could do with slot-on shelf to kitchen sink for room to put things on, as not much room to place things when cooking inside when weather bad,
Awning very heavy and not easily put on. Bought July 2008 and very satisfied with it.

Dandy Trailer Tents are extremely strong, 100% waterproof, easy to tow with a small car, excellent support from the manufacturer. Biggest + is the fabric. Made from two layers of PVC with foam insulation so you can pack it away wet, unlike canvas. We have had a 1995 Designer camper since 2005. Been all over Europe & the UK in it. It has stood up to horrendous weather, & provided cheap family holidays all that time. Don't dismiss an old one, as they do genuinely last 30+ years in regular use. The best folding campers by miles.

written by stevegill on 18/01/2009

The Dandy Trailer Tent is well made, very light to tow( if fact, you forget at times that the van's hooked on the car!), sufficiently comfortable (well you are camping are'nt you?), the underfloor heating is useful, the four hardboard walls make it feel that you are in a proper caravan, no storage charges (easy to park in the front garden), very cheap to maintain. Our tip is that you require a number of different sized bungee cords to give the poles that bit more stability. Once the poles are erected and the canvass is covered, simply place the cords on both poles near the kitchen area and door and this will ensure that the poles do not seperate from the grasps and will keep the canvass firm and stop the fear that it will collapse while you sleep.

Fred Sonic's Response to stevegill's Review

Get one with gas springs, or have them fitted - not hard to do. If the roof is tensioned on the frame the bungees aren't really needed.
