“Totally useless”

Beware - use Isola Building Services at your peril. To discover his previous history, google Playboy property dealer jersey. Don't be fooled by the smooth talking 'nicest guy you have ever met' He will probably take all your money and never finish the work. Isola Building services is not a proper building company but a tin pot organisation run by a sole proprietor with, as far as I am aware, no commercial premises, no employees and is so small that it is not even registered for VAT. He gets work by pretending to be a proper builder and then gets subcontractors (mostly self employed) to do the work which he virtually never supervises. Our experience has been the same as many others. The job was to strip a bathroom and convert it to a bed sit and convert an existing bedroom into a family bathroom and en suite bathroom. Work started on 20th June with a written completion date of 17th July. We paid an initial deposit and were persuaded to part with the final payment on 11th July (more fool us) 'so that he could get on with the job and complete it quickly'. After this, we saw virtually no workmen and had innumerable promises which were never kept. We had a meeting on 11th October when it was agreed that the work would be completed by 25th October. Between 12th and 25th we had workmen on site for a part of one day, so absolutely no effort was made to honour that agreement. Finally, in December, almost 6 months after the start of the work and 5 months late on completion, enough was enough and we cancelled the contract and arranged for another contractor to rectify and complete the work. Not only was the work not completed by Isola, but much of what was done was sub-standard. In particular, a new window opening was condemned by the building inspector because the internal lintel was too short, NO lintel was fitted externally with the weight of the brickwork being taken by the window frame and the window itself was set flush with the outer wall (not set back) so that water running down the wall entered the bathroom through the top opening. We also had floor boards cut so that there was no support for a partition wall, large holes in the passageway hall where the flooring had been replaced incorrectly and paint splodges all over a newly laid Vinyl floor. Apart from the plumbing (in desperation we dealt direct with the plumber) not a single item on the quotation was completed. In addition, Reeves knew that the reason for the work was to create a bedsit which would be rented out to supplement our pensions. By being 5 months late, we have lost approximately £1600 purely due to Reeve's actions, which we can ill afford, especially as I have already paid out £14,000 to him and now also have to pay the new contractor again for work which I have already paid for. Please heed my warning and be very cautious.

Poor work quality. Never picks up the phone, does not answer text message on time. Work not finished. Keep promising things but never happens.

Join the club !! I wish I had read these reviews before getting involved with Isola. We are now running nearly two mohths late on a guaranteed one month job with no end in sight. Never turns up when he says he will, promises the earth and does nothing and sweettalks you into parting with your money before the job is anywhere near completion. How he gets 5* ratings on his own site beats me. A really horrible experience.

“Run away, takes your money and does not complete work”

written by hrBoone248 on 04/09/2018

Ask for money following work advancement. Money ask is always more than what has been completed. Constant delays with tons of excuses for not coming. I think I have heard them all (rain, sun, sickness, equipment missing, materials missing). 1 month job end up in 6 months, then add to take other trade to complete work that was not done, but also that was not done correctly. We also found out on the internet that the owner of the business is well known in Jersey, for similar issues.

“Run away”

Poor quality of work, 50% needs to be redone. The person I dealt with at Isola Building Services and his team kept promising to show up, so we were waiting for them however they show up 1 in 5 times. This drove us crazy. Isola Building Services are extremely good at finding all possible excuses for not showing up (rain, sun, car issue, injuries, sickness, missing materials, missing equipment...). We took the person I dealt with to manage our renovation project so we did not have to coordinate ourselves, but he probably show up 5 times over 6 months. The coordination work as well as taking pictures of poor work done, was done by us. The person I dealt with will ask to be paid as work progresses, but he will ask much more than what has been completed. This is a technique to extract money out of you without doing the job. We had to get new trades to correct the work he did poorly.  An absolute disaster. I hope that our poor experience will avoid people getting trapped by Isola Building Services

written by jammyg on 05/10/2017

This company is unreliable. the owner has taken £25000 and not finished one aspect of his contract. I have a stink pipe unsecured venting in a garage, I have no main water in the kitchen area, guttering not put on waste pipe not connected plastering not finished. rendering of brick work not done. it was supposed to be finished in three weeks 8 weeks later and nowhere completion. legal advice being sourced to recover money. anyone wishing to see the work is more than welcome to come round for a tour.

Same problem. 2-3 week job with a guaranteed completion date now overrunning by 4 weeks and still no end in sight despite endless promises. Last week we had a total of one man for 3 hours. He may be able to charm the birds out of the trees but I doubt if he could organise a p++sup in a brewery. Total disorganisation and not a pleasant experience (and he's had all the money).
