“Food paid for but never arrived - poor communication!”

We placed an order at 7:50pm which was confirmed for 8:45pm. The food never arrived so at 9:00pm called the restaurant. The Restaurant (Downton Cheadle) said that they would now process the order and it would be deliver in 45min - 9:45pm! What was the point of Just-Eat. Don't order unless you want to starve! “Pass the buck!”

I was charged an extra 50p for using my direct debit card. This charge was added on to my bill once I had confirmed my order and already put in my secure password for my bank. I spoke with just eat customer services who said it is a government surcharge, it has nothing to do with them and if I didn't agree with it to take it up with my bank! They obviously don't feel that it is necessary to advertise this surcharge! Useless customer services. Will never use them again in fear of having charges… Read Full Review

The card fee reflects the cost to process card transactions through the site, the fee is visible when you select to pay by card and also on the order summary to the right of the payment screen. “Worst experience ever”

I ordered at 9:10pm. Delivery expected at 9:55pm. Just Eat called me to tell me the food will be late by 30min, so delivery would be at 10:25pm. I received a confirmation email informing the food was being cooked. 10:30pm, there was no news of the delivery. 10:45pm, I called the restaurant and they told me that there was no delivery that night and they told Just Eat already. After being turned down 2 times after placing orders for the same restaurant for no aparent reason, I wanted to present a complain of that take away to the website just-eat.co.uk. after being promptly answered on the chat, I explained the situation and the support answer was basically: I don't care. Firstly let me assure you that this is usually to do with how busy the restaurant is and whether they can handle your order at that time, not whether they'd like to deliver to you as a person. We have to provide them with this facility so they can turn away orders they can't complete. We are contracted to display the takeaway menus and so can't just remove them without them breaking this contract. “long delivery times, poor customer service”

Like many others I find the websites like just eat convenient and nothing else. Having had no food delivered trying to contact the customer service is a joke. No replies etc. Then to top it off when I tried to leave a review of the restaurant on there web site because THEY (the restaurant) cancelled my order I was not allowed to leave a review for the take away. Thanks for leaving us a review. I'm really sorry your order was cancelled and that you weren't able to get a reply from us. We're open from 9:00-00:00, Monday through till Sunday, so it'll be useful to know what time you tried to get in touch with us.

Takeaways have the option to cancel orders that have been accepted as unfortunately, circumstances on their end can change. For example their delivery van breaks down, closing early, machinery not working, so you see it could be anything. However I do understand your frustration and would like to find out what happened, so please email us details of your order and we'll have a look.

Our reviews are based on quality of food, delivery and service.so that they are reliable and help customers make an informed decision on who to place an order with. I'm afraid the reason you weren't able to leave a review was because you didn't receive an order, therefore you wouldn't have been able to leave a review for the overall service provided by the takeaway.

As your order was accepted by the restaurant, we were under the impression that they would be sending your order out to you. If the restaurant were unable to deliver we would have needed them to let us know so that we could then contact you. I'm really sorry that the restaurant didn't let us, our yourself, know of any changes after they'd accepted your order.

“Fees on debit cards”

Since April 6 it has been illegal for companies to charge customers more than what it actually costs to process card payments. This is reckoned to be about 2 per cent for credit cards and 20p for debit cards. I spoke to a customer agent when I was charged 5% on my order when I paid by debit card which is over twice what the above says. IE £10 order 50p charge. During the festive period we received high volumes of contact resulting in delayed response times. Our usual response times are around 24 hours via email. The team are now back to replying to customers on a live basis so this should have been resolved for you. If this is not the case, I would like to investigate.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you had such a poor experience. I'd just like to explain the process of payment to you so you can understand exactly what has happened to your funds. When you place an order, the payment system has to check that you have the funds available for the transaction. The fastest way it can do that is to reserve the funds inside your account pending the transaction being completed. In a normal situation, the transaction completes and the funds are physically debited by us usually within around 48 hours.

However, in your situation, the order was cancelled so the funds remained reserved until the bank remove the reserve on the funds. When funds are reserved, they are still in your account, but they are subtracted from the displayed available balance to prevent you from thinking there are more funds than there actually are. The time the funds take to appear back in your available balance is solely dependent on your bank's policy for cancelling the reservation, however, it usually takes about 7 working days. Some banks do have policies that can take up to 30 working days, though. Please also note that the return of your funds will not show as a transaction on your statement, but will in fact just re-add on to the available balance on the account.

“Convenient but very poor customer service”

Just eat is convenient to use but if there's ever an error, don't expect customer services to be particularly helpful. Due to a glitch in their system, I was charged twice on my credit card even though the website told me my card was declined both times.. In the end I had to pay for my order in cash. “burnt , dry and flavourless”
