“Great device for entertainment and education!”

★★★★★

written by MamaSally on 10/06/2013

There is no way a tablet will ever replace my desktop or even laptop for work, but for reading and playing games as well as internet access, it's great. The 7 inch size is convenient for carrying around and it's pretty sturdy. I keep mine in a cover, but have dropped it several times with no ill effects. We got my son an off-brand tablet for $80 and it is a waste. The Samsung works like a charm with Amazon for books and Google Play store for games. The only problem I've had is sometimes when the battery is low, it won't come back on until it is fully charged.

“My Value Basket Experience!”

★★★★★

written by on 25/12/2012

Bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and the service was amazing. No one had any in stock and you guys did. My son is a very happy boy! Only slight quibble was it arrived and was set to Japanese settings and ended up with an hour or so going through Google to try and re-set to English. Got there in the end as had another Internet tablet available. Would be an absolute nightmare if bought for someone who didn't have other Internet device or someone who didn't realise they could research on google to fix. Might be an idea guys to factory set at your end :) Saying that, you guys done great! Nigel Seymour

“It fulfills a need for me”

★★★★★

I have given it a five star rating because it has ended up being better than I had either hoped or expected. Why this and not some other tablet? I have been wanting something in the this size range for quite some time. A smartphone just does not have enough screen real estate and a netbook or a 10.1 inch tablet is too bulky to carry around in a pocket. A dealbreaker for me was the SD slot, if it didn't have one then I was not going to buy the device, so scratch the Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire. It comes with Android 4 which again was a prerequisite which I placed on buying a device of this kind - and this again eliminated a number of other tablets from my consideration. I was going to have to make some trade-offs for the price, mine cost £169 at PCWorld, so I was expecting it to be a bit sluggish. Pleasant surprise number one, it is NOT sluggish. I was not expecting the screen to be all that great, but again I was pleasantly surprised that the screen looks nice. I was concerned about the WiFi connectivity, but again that is solid and I can move around the entire apartment and have no problems. I bought a BELKIN F8M386cwC00 Samsung Tab 2 7" Folio Stand cover for it which I am very happy with, both from its quality and its utility. I got lucky on EBAY and managed to get two 32 GB class 10 micro SDHC cards for £18 each (including delivery) and they perform according to spec - another pleasant experience. I also found a YouTube site where they do drop tests on various devices and the Samsung came through with flying colours - which again was a major plus for me. At the end of the day, with all the differences in price, screen resolution etc. it can be confusing. My way out of this kind of dilemma is to say to myself, "What's the dealbreaker, what does it HAVE to have". In my case it was a micro SDHC slot and Skype. The Kindle would thus be out of contention even if it did offer an SDHC slot. I did not want to be bound to a propriety OS and thus Android was my choice. I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for it either. To the person reading this, your mileage may vary, but for the price I think this is the best compromise between a phone for portability and a ten inch tablet for readability that you will find out there at present.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0)

The 7inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a mini tablet akin to a Kindle in size and has varied ratings ranging from 3 stars to 5 out of 5. TechRadar think that this handy size and lightweight of only 344g would be well suited for commuters or those looking to use it as an eReader. The price is another reason to consider the Tab 2 and it packs all the usual Android features using a TI OMAP 4430 dual-core processor which they believe is sufficient to power most tasks.

T3 are not keen on the chunky design and poor audio of the Galaxy Tab 2 and dislike the plastic casing that is used on the rear of the tablet.

It is a slightly slimmer design compared to the first Galaxy Tab and features a headphone jack, an SD card slot to expand the memory storage from the standard 8 or 16GB up to 32GB.

TrustedReviews do not think it is a very impressive tablet but is good value and still one of the best for under £200. They think the performance of the Galaxy Tab 2 is solid and comfortable to use. They also prefer the glass screen as it avoids an oil slick effect that other tablets suffer from.

Pocket Lint feel that the Galaxy Tab 2 7inch is a grower and love that it can easily be transported in a coat pocket or handbag. The tablet also features a mircoSD card slot as well as an onscreen take screenshot button which they feel is a welcome addition as this feature is normally missing on Android devices.
