“Christmas Cracker Jewellery”

As a jeweller, I am surprised this company is allowed on air. Their stones are never of gem stone quality and are badly set in the minimum of metal. Please do not buy from Gems TV as their prices are as cheap as their jewellery. I bought a very expensive ring for a girlfriend's fiftieth birthday. When she opened the box to put the ring on a diamond fell out and she was unable to wear it to her party. The stones are of poor colour, badly cut and never set properly.

When they show gems on screen they use all manner of trickery as when they arrive they do not resemble what one has seen on screen with the use of ultra violet light and reflection on a mirrored stand.

I was very silly in thinking that I was buying what I had seen and very pale stones arrived which would never be described as gem quality.

Some gems are unheard of in the gem world and are valueless yet they tell us how exclusive they are. So exclusive that as a gemologist I have never heard of them.

They have presenters who verge on contravening the Trade Descriptions Act. Danburite, topaz and zircon do not look or behave like a diamond. All tanzanite is described as a higher grade than it really is emeralds and rubies which are never as they should look. Gems tv diamonds are like grains of salt in size and if larger look like soda crystals.

Please go to a good jeweller, safe in the knowledge that you will be sold something of quality. Better one good ring than a collection of rubbish.

you describe yourself as a jeweller and a gemologist ....if this is so then you shouldnt have to listen / be taken in by what their presenters say , you should already know that the only valuble gems are saphire , diamonds, emerald and ruby...u are obviously not what u descibe yourself to be or you are a mug...which is it?

Totally agree, the standard of workmanship is shocking, Steve Bennett is just out to make money, and dupes the public into buying very poor quality stuff - especially the diamonds, a free magnifying glass should be sent with each order. Treat it as if Woollies were still trading, at least they sold their jewellery as paste, mainly for little girls "dressing up", Gems TV is a con and should not be on air

tanzanite gradings are not standard anyway - apart from the odd items which come with a certificate from a proper gemological company it is left to the seller to decide what grade they are. tv channels always seem to show them against a blue or black background to exaggerate the depth of the colour. It's completely pointless buying tanzanite over the tv unless you are not bothered about the grade you get.
