“very bad quality”

Written on: 10/07/2011

when the jewellery arrives it looks gorgeous in the box and it sparkles. You then fall in love with it, drop you guard and forget about even thinking of sending it back.

Then i gained confidence and ordered a few pieces for gifts and for my daughter. I sent one piece to my own jeweller because the stone came out afer i had been wearing it for 2 months. He said that it was badly made and that it the stone had been coated in lacquer that had now started to wear off and that the stone had inclusions it it. I sent it back to Gems and they sent it me back saying it was wear and tear!! My god, i had got rings that I have wore for twenty years and the stones are fine they have been resized and polished and go back to their former glory.

My daugher's nine carat ring split on the shank and I sent that to be repaired by a different jeweller who is very reputable. He said that although it was 9ct gold it was off poor quality and the gold had air pockers in it which meant the gold was porous. He said i don't know you had it from but send it back. i sent it back to gems and they said they were not prepared to do anything because i did not use one of their jewellers.

I then started to scrutinise my other gems tv pieces and I am no expert but i can see that the quality it not great and as with everything you get what you pay for.

I agree with the quality of the gems are terrible. But what what suprised me was the gold. I have a few rings from them and I have not worn them and left them in their boxes for six months or so in my drawer. But recently when I took them out I notice the gold has black patches all over it, just like costume jewellery only worse. Now I know why I didn't know you can bad quality gold.

They sell rubbish and try to con the public that they are getting bargains, their profits must be huge - pity they cannot afford Quality Control - really it should be stopped by the Trading Standards people, but if no one complains, there are always new customers to con...

I totally agree with what you are saying more people should take this further. I purchased a number of items. Large stoned rings etc that can not be worn every day. I recently checked some items after reading some of the comments on here and there where black marks on the gold and silver where the items had began to tarnish. How can this happen when you havan't even worn the item?
Total rubbish, I will be contacting Trading Standards as Gems TV dont want to know!
