I so object to being made to wait to pay with a trolley full of shopping while the cashier serves two people in the queue after me, first, because they are buying less. It is a disgrace that she places people who are paying less with more importance and does not feel justified to call anyone else to serve as it will take as long!! The fact that they would have to wait until someone else came, to me was correct rather than making me wait while she served them instead of getting someone from upstairs (maybe they were eating their lunch and she did not want to disturb them) to come and do what they are being paid to do. Anyway, I had a very limited amount of time when I decided to fit a quick shop in, needing to get back quickly to take someone to catch their train. It was not the first time I had to do this, again at lunchtime (but she is reluctant to call help at any time) and that time I had to get back to take my son to an exam, so was equally annoyed to wait in a growing queue while the cashier chose to soldier on instead of calling someone to help straight away, I must have waited about 5 mins minimum and then just as my turn came up, she called someone else - if she had done this earlier I could have benefited from a shorter wait too. FRANKLY IT REALLY IS AN INSULT TO HAVE TO WAIT TO PAY IN ANY SUPERMARKET, but particularly galling at the COOP when you know other cashiers could come to serve straight away - this is their procedure, they now need training so that cashiers put it in to practice.
