How backwards can one be? In order to reset my forgotten password, Computershare must send a temporary password to my mailing address. BEcause I'm out of the USA, it takes 3 weeks. Once I reset my password, it tells me that a verification code will now be required, and that it was sent to my mailing address (3 more weeks). Once logged on, I'm told that I can't sell my shares until a W8-BEN form is filled in, and guess what? They'll mail it to my mailing address (3 more weeks), then, I have to mail it back (not even a fax number!). Bottom line, it takes 10 weeks to perform an online transaction.

I anticipated in December needing to sell some of my portfolio around now to meet cashflow requirement relating to a property transaction. I have been a long term investor and have never had problems when the company Dividend Reinvestment Program (DRIP) was administered by Mellon. Being in possesion of my letter with access code I attempted login only to be greeted with a message to say my access code has expired (no mention of expiry or period of validity in the letter) and that they would send me another access code by mail to my home address 140 miles from where I am tending to my 87 year old mothers needs as she gradually succumbs to heart failure. I will be writing to CEO's of companies in my portfolio now administered by Computershare indicating my intention to withdraw as quickly as possible within taxation constraints and blacklist their companies until they find another agent. I may be a long term holder of shares rather than a day trader but when I choose to transact I expect to be able to do so promptly and efficiently. Livid.
