“Solution Container disintegrating and discolouring”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sbradish on 18/08/2016

The machine worked great for 6 weeks, then we noticed excess water being leaked onto the floor. I took off the solution container and notice that the plastic was breaking off and the cap was not able to seal properly. I thought this must have been my fault for over tightening and ordered a new solution container on Amazon. This arrived and normal service was resumed until about 2 months later the same thing happened, the plastic seemed to be breaking away from where the cap screws in and the clear plastic glass had become cloudy. Not too much help so far from Customer Service as I see this is a common fault online. The chemicals used are obviously reacting to the plastic and causing it to 'melt' and break down, in my opinion.

“Useless Machine Usless Customer Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Aileen419 on 30/10/2014

We had this machine for under a year. Used it a handfull of times and now it doesnt work. My mum is eldery and forgot where the receipt was. Upon calling customer service(Vax) They could only offer a £75.00 repair charge .....REALLY! or a discount on another machine which turned out to be a lie as their items were discounted for everyone anyway online!! Never Again !!

“Does what it says! ”

★★★★☆

written by Ashleigh40 on 01/06/2014

I have only had this mop a couple of weeks but so far so good! No problems with set up simply fill up water tanks and mop away! You do need to get used to how much steam you need otherwise the floor can be left a bit wet. I have 3 children and a 16 week old puppy so decided to give steam mops a go. No idea why I didn't buy one years ago no more hassle of filling and refilling a bucket or dirty mop heads. The one thing that made me buy this cleaner was because it also had detergent tank as well as steam so double cleaning on my floors! Extra bonus was the offer of price of 49.99. Would definitely recommend!

“Detergent bottle”

★★★☆☆

written by Izabellek59 on 06/04/2014

Have owned this product for around a year. Since purchase the detergent bottle has never dispensed any detergent, basically leaving me with no alternative but to throw the detergent away. This product is not cheap. I have checked the instructions and there is no mention of how to rectify the problem. Think I'll be going back to the good old mop and bucket in due course. On the plus side it is lightweight and glides along floors well.

I, too, have had the same problem. One inure detergent is dispensing, now it isn't. I have also ready comments on various other sites with consumers experiencing the same problem. Vax should really sort the problem out istead of just ignoring it.

I had this problem too, it's to do with the way they've been stored before they are sent out apparently? It puts a kink in the pipe so the detergent doesn't come out. Ring them and they should replace it under warranty

“Design fault”

★★☆☆☆

written by lizzie3750 on 26/09/2013

Vax S2S Bare Floor Pro I've had this steam cleaner for just over a year now. Initially, it seemed to work quite well, however, I have had to contact the company several times because the detergent container does not fit well and has never been easy to take off or put on from day one. The plastic tabs keep breaking so there is a design fault here. It seems as if it is under too much pressure and wont stay in place and the tabs just break under the stress. The company have replaced the securing tabs free of charge which has been a plus side, but they just continue to break. The problems have been since its arrival and I'd call it a 'Friday' machine, one that has slipped through quality control and my request to have it exchanged for another one, has fallen on deaf ears. Currently, the container is held on with a rubber band. I would not buy this again (once bitten, twice shy) and I'm currently saving up to buy a different steam mop made by someone else.

“Unreliable”

Selected this as exchange for Black and Decker model which expired after 9 months. Appliance gave up after 4th use. Did not like the two water chambers. Floor seemed no cleaner with use of detergent. Floor too wet with steam applied more constantly. Did not lift dirt from grout as expected.

“Streaks on floor”

written by vacsteamuser on 09/04/2013

I purchased the steam cleaner 9 months ago and was so impressed! Then suddenly it started streaking the floor and was much more wet than usual. I complained and they have just recently sent me an alternative replacement and it does exactly the same! streaks the floor! Now I have two steam vacs cluttering up my garage!

“Was broken on arrival and replacement was too!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 09/05/2012

I must have been unlucky. I received the product after buying online direct from Vax. The arm that hold the handle was cracked on arrival. I called Vax and they said they would send a replacement handle (wouldn't give a refund) which eventually arrived in a plastic bag! This was broken too. I went and bought a Black and Decker which is so much more sturdy. Now awaiting a refund from Vax.

“Help is at hand for cleaning laminate flooring.”

★★★★★

written by Dragoness on 22/04/2012

I have tried out Vax laminate floor cleaner and I'm really impressed. It is easy to use, just mix three capfuls in a bucket of 5 litres of water and away you go with a mop! The results really speak for themselves as the floors are clean, residue and streak free - just like it claims on the bottle. The smell - orange - is strong in the bottle but just right on the floor. I used this on the paint that 'appeared' on my daughter's floor when she was decorating her bedroom and it came off with ease despite having been on there a while! Floors are clean at last. You can also use this on cork, lino and parquet... I used it on the parquet flooring we have downstairs and it has done an equally good job. I think it is quite economical but will defintely replace with the same when it does run out!

“One of the better ones - still not quite good enough”

★★★★☆

written by on 01/04/2012

I bought a Polti some years ago and used it once as it was so cumbersome and pretty much useless. I'm always on the lookout for things to make life easier so I decided to give the Bare Floor Pro a try. It is a vast improvment on the Polti and very easy to use but doesn't clean anything as well as "down on your knees with a mop and floor cloth". It's fine for a quick clean every day if you have pets or children and it left my kitchen floor tiles clean but a bit dull. However, it was very disappointing on my high gloss bathroom floor tiles as it left water behind which dried to bad streaks, so I won't be using it there. I would probably give it 90 out of 100.

“Excellent”

★★★★☆

written by jamilayz on 24/03/2012

The Vax S2ST Bare Floor Pro steam cleaner is essentially an upgrade from the basic Vax steam cleaner. There are two main differences - the first is the introduction of the steam cleaning detergent and the other is the use of Velcro pads as opposed to those you slip over the end of the steam cleaner. The premise is the same, you fill one tank with water, the other with cleaner, switch on, wait a minute (it really IS that fast) and you are ready to go. You glide forwards pressing the steam button, and backwards picking up the resulting dirt - and believe me, no matter how clean you think your floor is, it is not that clean at all! The pads get dirty very quickly. The steam cleaning is quick, efficient, and if you don't overdo the swooshes of steam, the floor is pretty dry shortly after you have finished. SO much better than a mop! The original hard floor steam cleaner used water only to clean the floor. Ok, the steam made it pick up more than the mop, but it was just, essentially, water. The addition of the cleaning fluid really does pick up more grime and grease than the previous steam cleaner, and it has a pleasant refreshing scent as you clean, making it smell cleaner as you work. There is an attachment for refreshing carpets. It does NOT clean carpets. There are vax carpet cleaners for this job! However, the steaming of a carpet does kill dead any bacteria, and as this is what causes carpets to smell, it does kill dead any traces of floor smells. And before you think I am a cleaning nut, bacteria does appear on carpets from sweaty feet or paws, small particles of skin and sundry other items that wipe over its surface in the usual way of life. The steam cleaner does eliminate the smells but not the dirt on carpets. I have a parquet floor as well as lino. On lino the vax S2ST Bare Floor Pro steam cleaner performed wonderfully, almost made it into the corners, but did make it right up tight against the kitchen kickboards, which pleased me tremendously. On the parquet floor, the cleaning fluid worked nicely but it felt a little sticky afterwards so merited a swoosh over with a cloth afterwards to mitigate this. I would not recommend it for much use on parquet flooring. The positive side of the vax S2S Bare Floor Pro steam cleaner are: - Light - Easy to put together - Easy to manipulate when cleaning - Fast startup time - Ten mins of steam cleaning more than enough for the kitchen floor, utility and two bathrooms (it really is that fast) - Quick cool down time after use - Easy to clean the pads afterwards - just toss them in the washing machine (do not use conditioner) but make sure the cleaner is COOL before you try and remove them - Small to store, hardly takes up any room - No more smelly damp mops hanging around the house (I threw my mop and bucket away) There are downsides though: - Can be a bit fiddly to get the cleaner housing off the machine to fill it with cleaner, took a few tries, but once you get the hang of it, it works just fine - The Velcro pads are fine in the beginning, but how long will the Velcro last I wonder? I also noticed that one of the pads kept slipping off as I worked. Easy to put back, but should not have happened. - I would be concerned about the cleaning fluid. Nice idea, but you have to go to extra expense to use the cleaner, and the cleaning fluid is so much more expensive than the stuff you used in your mop and bucket. Overall it is an excellent buy though, it cut my floor cleaning time down from a whole morning (cleaning and dry time) to about fifteen mins, including setup and cool down of the machine. It was stress free and so easy to use. Therefore, I highly recommend this product!

“Absolutely Brilliant”

★★★★★

written by on 19/03/2012

I have only the hightest of praise for this cleaner. It is Lightweight ans surprisingly easy to use, its cleaning head swivels into corners I did not know I had. There are awkward areas under and around pipes, which till now I have usually had to clean by going down on my hands and knees, not an ideal situation when you have osteoarthritis. No mops I have tried so far had been able to cope without this intervention on my part. Now my knees are saved. I like the ease of maneuvering this around, no heavy buckedtd of water to drag around. The cleaning fluid that comes with Vax does the job well, it leaves a fresh scent which is not overpowering. If I have any gripes it is purley a personal problem, I have very small hands and found removing the water tanks just a little hard, it could do with good indentations for small handed souls like me to be able to get a purchase on. I did get them off. I love my Vax Bare Floor pro. I would also suggest that maybe a couple more cleaning pads in the box would not go amiss, I found the mop so quick and efficient that I had used the two supplied quickly, and a large are cleaned and gleaming. I have also tried on one of my rugs, great there too.

“Steam Mop vs Mop & Bucket. Fight!”

★★★★☆

written by Koopatroopa on 16/03/2012

As this was the first steam mop I’ve tried, I was interested to see how it would fare against the mop and bucket. Following the simple and clear instructions, I filled one tank with water and the other with detergent (supplied), plugged it in, waited a minute and it was ready to go. I used it to clean lino flooring. Pros: The product is easy to assemble, light and stores away neatly. It cleans well and left a shine on the lino which is still visible many days after cleaning. The lino didn’t take long to dry after cleaning which was another bonus. The microfibre cloths were easy to detach and wash after use, ready for next time which was definitely easier and more hygienic than cleaning a dirty mop and waiting for it to dry. Cons: The water and detergent tanks were fiddly to detach at first and this could be a problem for people with reduced dexterity. I found it heavy in use and difficult to push around but given time, could get used to this. While the cleaning was a quite a bit better than the mop and bucket routine, it wasn’t as outstanding as I had been expecting. The additional expense of the steam mop (detergent (optional)/replacement microfibre cloths and electricity) in long term use should also be considered. Lowdown: Handy product for homes with extensive hard flooring. Nifty and easy to use, clean and store. Performs better than the mop & bucket just don’t expect too much. Worth investing in for hygiene and efficiency.

“Pro Floor steam cleaner”

★★★★★

written by Deanohitchings on 16/03/2012

I have now been using the new vac pro floor cleaner for a couple of weeks. & what a difference it has made to speed & ease of the boring job of cleaning the floors. The simple quick straight forward job starts even before you start cleaning, the easy set up & quick warm up time is quicker than waiting to fill a bucket of water for the old fashion mop!! I have used it on three different types of floor so far real wood, laminate & tiles. With the supplied cleaner cleaned effortlessly with a nice citrus sent & streak free & dried in half the time of mop & water. I have also used it on carpet using the suplied adapter to remove some very muddy foot prints, with as the same impressive results. So my first experience of the pro floor steam cleaner is a versatile easy to use, With great results unit. This cleaner has made a laborious job a lot quicker & simpler. Would defiantly recommended .

“quick and easy”

★★★★☆

written by LyndyFB on 13/03/2012

this is a quick and easy to use steam cleaner thats much better than a mop and bucket. instructions are easy to use and it heats up in a few minutes. cleaning pads are easy to attach and easy to clean. on a lino floor its great and drys quick. on a tiled floor for the first time you might need a clean mop to dry up the muddy puddles it leaves behind, but the second time you use it the results are fantastic. great for cleaning up after pets and you can really feel the difference on your floor. smells good too. only drawback is you do waste some cleaning fluid on a small floor.

“its so easy to use”

★★★★★

written by thetestinator on 13/03/2012

hi, well ive had my bare floor pro for two weeks now and i must report its fantastic, heres how it goes: water in the front bottle and detergent mix in the back bottle, put on a pad and 30secs later, your glideing across the wood/laminate or even vinyl flooring. as it uses steam it kills germs and smells, in one go. also the detergent has a fresh citrus smell that is very welcoming. it also has a atachment for revitalising carpets. steam kills germs that cause odour. also steam dries very quickly unlike mopping. you can even wash the wash pads in the washing machine. i cant see how anything could be easyer for my laminate floors. its a dream machine.

“Throw the mop away”

★★★★★

written by on 12/03/2012

Hi I have just used the vax S2S Bare floor pro steam for the first time, I have never used a steam cleaner of any description before so did not know what to expect. I spent 10 minutes reading the instructions and had no problem getting the cleaner ready to use; it was quick and simple to assemble. There are two cylinders on either side of the unit one for water and one for the cleaning solution, these slide off for filling. The unit can be used with or with out cleaning solution, which is great for a quick clean. Also cost effective. The micro fibre cloth literally sticks to the bottom of the cleaner & pulls off to be cleaned in the washing machine when it’s dirty. I started work on the kitchen floor tiles first. I have 2 dogs and 2 children so cream tiles perhaps wasn't the best choice, Anyway I’m constantly mopping and because I use so much pressure on the mop to remove marks I break the handles regularly. How surprised I was to find that the steam cleaner actually cleaned the floor better and with out all the hard work, the head glided round the units with ease. I was able to use one hand to pull the trigger to release steam and to slide the cleaner back and forth & tougher marks came away with just an extra glide across them. The floor was cleaned in half the time it takes me to mop as I didn’t have to rinse and squeeze between each stub an mark. The cleaner is quite trim so stores very well in my cupboard as it’s no taller than a mop handle and the head is smaller than the bucket. You can even detach the handle from the cleaning unit and it would probably fit in a cupboard under the sink. The cable is ample long enough to get around with out changing sockets and stores on the unit between the two hooks on the handle. The Instructions state you can re fresh carpets so I had a go in the toilet upstairs. For doing Carpets the unit just sits on to a plastic support so it doesn’t actually attach in any way. I’m slightly concerned at how long this attachment may last, been plastic and loose, as I lifted the unit & the attachment remained on the floor and I almost stood on it. Initially it didn’t glide as well, as you'd expect. Once I got going with the steam building up onto the carpet in moved easier. The head again almost manoeuvres it self around objects I.e. the toilet in this case. I’m not sure that I could see a difference in the carpet but I could definitely could smell an improvement and knowing that its steaming the carpet I know that germs were been killed so this was quite satisfying. The laminate in the family room cleaned equally as well as the kitchen. I also noticed that when I changed direction there was a small build up of Hair and dust that had been missed by earlier vacuuming but if I returned the cleaner over this dust it stuck to the micro fibre cloth. Result. Its name says it all really bare floor steam cleaner. This is what its best at and I can tell you its going to save me a fortune in mop handles and time. I’m more than happy with the cleaning results. My floors smell great and are shinning not to mention germ free well until the dogs and kids get back in.

“A superior floor steam cleaner.”

★★★★★

written by PureHeaven on 06/03/2012

I am so happy with my S2S Bare Floor Pro steam cleaner. It is the best one I have used. I was delighted when I discovered the machine is free standing. My previous two cleaners did not have this facility and would fall to the ground if I didn’t support them securely against a worktop or piece of furniture. This machine is also straight forward to set up and simple to operate. The water and detergent tanks simply lift off for filling and then push back on again (the detergent tank gave some resistance on the first occasion it was removed but was absolutely fine afterwards) and it takes just seconds to position the microfibre pad beneath the footplate - what an absolute boon!!! I used to get so frustrated when attaching the cloth covers to my old cleaners as they were so fiddly; I would have to lay the machines on the floor and get down on my hands and knees to place the covers over the foot plate. The Vax S2S Bare Floor Pro has an innovative gripping system instead. I also find the Vax S2S easy to manoeuvre over the floor and around the furniture. Dirt is removed with very little effort. After use the microfibre pad is easily pulled off ready to be washed. This method of floor cleaning is far more hygienic than the old fashioned mop and bucket method - this is important for me as I have a cocker spaniel and baby grand daughter. The machine also comes with a non-toxic citrus scented detergent, which is optional as the cleaner can be set to clean using steam only. As the S2S Bare Floor Pro steamcleaner is so quick to set up and easy to use, my floors are now spotless in half the time!!
