I just bought my rev 3 rurbo . Thats my third mr2 since i was 19 when i bought my first aw 11 . But thus sw20 is something like the peak of toyota. Great feeling when you drive it. Everything awesome this car gives me a feeling that you can stay forever young in it cos there ain't no place for getting older when you drive the mr2. I really do not care much bout the fuel consption its a sport car and is not meant ti be economic. I believe that the mr2 is rha beat gift for all the males who want a fast but also affordable and goodlooking car. This car has only one bad point: it does not have bad points!!! And here is something for my friends: bye bye hondas!!!

“Mine's an MR2 GT rev 3 Turbo, half leather and...”

★★★★★

written by on 30/01/2010

Mine's an MR2 GT rev 3 Turbo, half leather and alcantara, with all the extras! Have had it for 2 years and driven it in all conditions, including heavy snow! I'd recommend taking it very easy in the snow, as it's incredibly twitchy... And really to be honest avoid driving in snow altogether if you can, because it's fun, but v v dangerous! I have a dented rim due to lame driving skill on my part. I'm not versed in driving mid-engined sports cars in the snow, and the turbo has enough lag to mean that it's very tricky!
This is not a torquey car, and needs to be revved to go fast. However, as long as you treat it with respect it's great fun!! I had a smart roadster before, which was amazing fun, lots of turbo smiles, with lots of electronics to help you out.
You could do silly speeds, and get away with very naughty stuff. DO NOT TRY THIS IN AN MR2 TURBO! UNLESS YOU REALLY LIKE TREES/BUSHES/MOTORWAY RESERVATIONS OR SUCHLIKE!!

This car has been amazing, and I've looked after it well, servicing every 6000miles and letting her warm up before using full power.

However, this is not a car to hang about. Whilst you can happily do normal speeds with no bother, it does like to be revved! Fuel economy is very good for the type of car, tyres have lasted me about 18000 miles, and all I can say is be very careful and do your research. Pay attention on the motorway, as her natural cruising speed seems to be around 95-100 if you're not concentrating!

I hankered after one for years, but set myself one weekend to buy one. Saw some very bad examples, and mine was incredibly good and very original. However, because it was original, there were lots of age-related things that needed replacing.
I'm fussy but, so far I've replaced all the dampers, bushes, brakes, wheels, tyres, and more besides. Just buying original kit has cost me £2500 including labour. If I'd still had my garage then the costs would have been a lot less!

Bear in mind, old sports car=replacing worn parts. But parts are available, and are not incredible money.

Compared to the supra TT that I was looking at, this is much more fun everyday, and far far lower cost. I average 15000miles a year, and get average 260miles to a 43 litre tank. Have got 370 on a longer motorway journey. Super is recommended, and does make a difference to both performance and economy. Tesco 99 gives me an extra 30 miles to a tank compared to normal 95. Car is designed for 100RON, and whilst it'll run on lower quality fuels, it feels "soggy" on 95RON.

Mine uses no oil to speak of, and has the power when I need it. Once you learn to drive it then it's amazing fun! Before that it can be very very scary! Don't be over-confident, and you'll be fine. Take it easy and you'll have the most fun!!! I'm only getting rid of mine because I now have lots of stuff to carry about, and whilst the boot is very big for a sports car, it's not up to carrying 4 jerry cans and luggage! For nroaml weekending it is perfect, however. And myself and a partner have weekended very comfortably in the past, with two holdalls, and two backpacks.

Toyota MR2 T-BAR Turbo GTS Rev 3. Good all round sports car!
Enough boot space for a long weekend away, good sound system, a pleasure to drive and faster than most of your WRX's and EVO's out there!
Would buy one again if there weren't so many young lads driving about in them now-a-days giving them a bad rep.

The first review appears somewhat missinfomred. He says do not buy an imported "dog" MR2 Turbo. Just a point here, but every MR2 turbo is an import as the turbo was never made for the UK market.

Great performance, a real Ferrari feel to it, engine noise is superb, you'd have no idea when you see one going by just how awesome it feels to drive. Must have the turbo though, DONT rob yourself and buy the NA version, it's still a suprb car but when you've experienced both you can't compare. Nothing will deter me from buying another Turbo, there is a reason supercars are built mid engined rear wheel drive, the MR2 Turbo follows that ethic superbly. Track days, road use, driving in traffic on a hot day, all good!

I own a black rev 3 Toyota MR2 GT-S turbo 1993...I'd say an absolute bargain at £4000. It's 300bhp with a T60 garrat turbo, these cars can quite easily be tuned to eat 911's, I love them so buy one. If you can get hold of some Nissan Skyline R32 rims...they go straight on, with spacers for the front. You get amazing grip due to the rears being 20 mil wider!

Hard to drift these but you can still have fun in the wet :) not the best for shopping and if you got kids etc but its a proper sports car, if you buy 1 you gotta drive it like you stole it you don t buy a fast car to drive slow! plenty of tuning available for these too, can push these to over 600bhp if you really wanted to, and the best bit is watching the imprezas fade away in you mirror, i love it, you will love it, so buy 1, and you aint gotta go to Toyota for all the bits, try ebay its endless, dizzy and rotor together cost me £30 and i fitted it myself easy peezy, other parts like cam belt can b pricey but the best way is to stay away from the main dealer and use a proper jap tuners, alot cheaper and do a better job ; ). All in all buy this car and prepare to enter the world of high speed pleasure and fun, with the likes of HKS and Blitz, Greddy/trust at your fingertips, and an endless list of upgrades, get 1 now, and watch the ladies drool and come flocking.

Just bought my first Toyota MR2 its a GT T-Bar Turbo as well. I have had some fun cars in my time but this is the first one to make me feel like a really great driver, need to get it de-restricted any advice would be gratefully received, as for insurance I may be old at 52 but I put it on a classic policy with performance direct for 180.05 now that really makes me smile.

“This is my second Toyota MR2 in 3 years, my old one...”

★★★★★

written by ChrisGeorge on 29/06/2007

This is my second Toyota MR2 in 3 years, my old one had everything, leather, the looks, etc, but one main problem, IT HAD NO TURBO!
I have looked long and hard for my current turbo, a 1994, Rev3 Turbo with leather and Alcantra interior and only 54,000 miles. Completely standard and never seen rain in this country as it was a weekend car all for only £3900. Now that's what I call a bargain supercar.
The MR2 Turbo is a wickedly fast car, with tons of grip (in the dry), and great fun in the wet. I previously owned an Integra Type-R which gave me a huge grin when the V-Tech kicked in but the MR2 gives a complete new experience of power and fun. It handles like a go-kart and just gives and gives and gives.
As I said this is my second MR2 and I would have a third and fourth, I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a cheap high performance car.

“The Toyota MR2 T-BAR Turbo GTS Rev 3! MR2 Rev III...”

★★★★★

written by JapTheLad on 28/01/2004

The Toyota MR2 T-BAR Turbo GTS Rev 3! MR2 Rev III Turbo is the fastest version of MR2 ever made running 240BHP as standard, my one is a GTS (turbo/T-bar). Mature Sporty Personal you here me! MR2 stands for MidEngine-RearWheeelDrive-2Seater. Plenty of mods available but little sister of the Supra T.Turbo. Poor Man's Ferrari. The Fast the Furios a little in your face but looks good and excellent value for your money. Deristrict is a must! Turbo only available in IMPORTS-What a SHAME! Japs have aircon as standard climate control etc. Practicality for such a car is not that bad so stop complaining Mr Tight Pockets. Compared to a Supra. Starts every time

I\'ve decided I want a rev3 mr2 turbo after considering all the competition.
A friend of mine had a non turbo uk model and tho it wasn\'t that fast, it looks lovely and the build quality and trim is really nice.
The alternatives I am looking at are a scooby- fantastic but very common and I think rwd is more fun.
Nissan 200 s14- looks cool, quite rare and with good spec but not as fun to drive as the mr2 or so I am told-certainly is heavier and less powerful anyway.
Nissan pulsar- quite rare, but fragile and tho I kind of like the looks there not exactly conventionally sexy looks like the mr2.
Anyway- I have looked in newspapers for this car but do you know if an auction is worth going to or dodgy?

“Theres plenty of 'fast' cars out there and to be fair...”

★★★★☆

written by bob. on 23/11/2002

Theres plenty of 'fast' cars out there and to be fair they all go like stink - yet when racing someone how much further in front can u get from them usually? Couple of car lengths or so? All these so called mass produced sports cars can reach 60 m.p.h in 7 or 8 secs to a top end of 120 - 135. True peformance cars have always been ferraris / Lambo's / 'certain' Porsches ;)
The search was on to identify a sports car solely for driving pleasure that a Mr Average could afford to but & RUN!
The vehicle decided upon, after plenty of research, was the MR2 TURBO. Plenty of mr2's to choose from but alas never imported as a commercial vehicle for sale in U.K. . Not a problem as vehicle importers had realised the potential to fill the gap.
I looked for 7 months for the right mr2 turbo, God there was SO many dog 1's about - i.e. neglected whether owner just ran out of dosh to maintain it or lack of knowledge on looking after them. TOYOTA UK DEALERS have been sent a memo from Toyota, Japan that full service help can now be provided to owners of mentioned car. Great - and i can vouch how BRILLIANT they are!! £190 to do a cambelt and replace the air-con and alternator belt at same time for example !
All parts are sourceable and basically it's a mr2 uk car with celica turbo running gear (except gear box bit's' n bob's - clutch is same as celica turbo ..... )
The car had minor problems (which the previous owner must of thought it was on it's way out ,he he he - bargain price !)
The car was driving like your Mams Fiesta and then when warmed up no faster than Barrys xr3i.
You must remember that these jap cars are packed full of over usefull technical equipment. The e.c.u. is self protecting and won't allow the driver to 'stress' or 'wear' the engine unnecessarily.
The engine was running 'cold', caused by a faulty Thermostat stuck open not allowing it to get to operating tempreture - common problem by the way!!!
The cooling system has to be maintained, it has various bleed points and so found it as an investment to let main dealer do it, cheaper than replacing a warped cylinder head ;)
The car 'eats' distributor caps (£50!)
and rotor arms (£ 19!)
replace every 2 years or 15,000 miles.
Mine was replaced as a precautionary measure and now the car doesn't miss now and again!
The car is very torquey upto 3000 r.p.m.
The turbo starts to kick in at 2800 r.p.m. untill it's full impact is made felt at 3500 r.p.m.
It's a gradual build up of power so you can drive the car very relaxingly round town.
The car really feels secure when it's pumping out it's bonkers amount of power. Jap official figures are 0-60 of 5.2 seconds , it certainly feels it , but official figures are always on a lovely smooth test track in perfect conditions. So to be honest i'd say (running on super unlead fuel 98 octane -- optimax shell -- ) about 6 is realistic. I'm bound to be biased, but Subaru gives it's Turbo imprezza very impresive figures, yet when racing my mates y am i having to back off the accelerator before i have an impact on his nice rear bumper? When there's space to overtake, he's absolutely gutted as i pull away as he's trying his damnedest to play keep up/catch up !!
But they are 2 totally differnet sports cars. Mines just rear wheel drive and the 4wd will have an advantage that i could only dream of (in the wet that is, he he he)
The mR2 is only a driving machine and is very impractical for using it for anything else (you can still lob couple cases of beer and 3 bags of shopping in it's little boot !!
Insurance provde to be a minor problem - finding out what companies will insure you ( group 20 same as the Ferrari brigade :o )
Tesco insurance will do it but most major insurance companies won't touch you. Mind you norwich union wouldn't insure me but when my broker arranged my insurance the people underwriting the policy was ... NORWICH UNION. hhmmmm!
They obviously can, but under a different policy title.
Mines a Club mans policy with a limit of 5000 miles a year fully comp for £840/year/7 years no claims. Not bad but i was only paying £370 on a astra gte. Big mark up for insurance companies.
You won't get insured unless the vehicle has a cat 1 alarm immobilser confirming to VESA standards (£400 typical instal cost at a dealer).
If you are thinking of buying a mr2 turbo and need help or advice y not e-mail me and i can help you out. [email protected]

There is a way to gvery cheap insurance on the mr2/mr2 turbo.
but you have to spend a bit to save a lot.
if you get a ferrari 355 kit fitted (looks the bee's Knee's!!!) you can go through kit car insurers and half your premium.
there is a campany that will take your car fit the kit spray it in your choice of colour fit the ferrari wheels badge it up and drop it off for ten grand.
if you save six hundred a year it pays for it self.

Spot on review of a very, very underated car! Not helped by the fact that most people are scared of by imports due to scare stories spread by dealerships & crazy insurance premiums. O well their loss!

I own a black GT Turbo T-bar model imported from Japan. It sticks to the road like glue and I give it a 10 out of 10 for grin factor. The Turbo cuts in early too (3000 rpm) and boy when it does HOLD ON!

He speaketh the truth !

Only one thing I'd have to add, if the road is wet, holy mother of god please heed these words (especially for turbo models) don't drive like a madman. If you overcook it on a wet corner it's rather like a warped ballet with a pendulum effect thrown into the mix! In short it's horrendous trying to regain control, but in the dry it goes like a dream. This 'handling in the wet' conundrum, is the basic principal of all mid engined motors so it's not a poor reflection on the MR2, which is a steal really for the price.

Don't. While interesting it pays to wear tan coloured pants when attempting such an exercise.
