I bought the 301 V's after a rather unpleasant encounter with a pair of Klipsch RF-62 II's. The horn was really directional, so I decided to get a more conventional system. The 301, being a speaker of endurance (many people have owned a pair for 10+ years). Okay, I already had a pair in another room. The 301 lays out a good sound stage, it's reasonable efficient and according to YPAO, bass rolls off where it did on my RF-62's, so my subwoofer is active from 60 Hz. The thing that strikes me most is that they are not directional (tinny) or strident. I suppose that puts them in direct contrast with the speakers they replaced (Klipsch RF-62 II's). No, they won't overpower or go as loud as the RF's will, but along with a Klipsch RC-62 II center channel and a Klipsch subwoofer these bad boys make for a great sound stage. Yamaha Parametric Audio Optimizer took care of all the little Db bumps that happen (the RC-62 is 4.5Db more efficient). All said and done, as a life long Klipsch heritage customer, I hope I can get my old Chorus II's back and after going through the $800 a pair RF's well, these speakers are really nice. The sound state is awesome and they're a great bang for the buck.

Bought a second hand of bose 301 series 4 for £160 and expensive speaker wire and also bought a pair of speaker stands for them to sit on and wired my bose up to a 5.1 LG surround sound system and set it all up.The sound is the best iv ever heard and would recommend these speakers to any one.

I find this product doesn't live up to the expectations of the famous and popular brand name. I purchased two of them for an upgrade on the Sony sound system I had, but it ended up being a down grade. The reason I gave this item 3 stars and not 1 is strictly because I do not know if it "sucks" or my old system was incredible.

These Bose 301 Series V speakers are absolutely fantastic in the mid range. Which was key for me as most speakers I have owned or listened to in this price range struggle in this area. They are fantastic for rock and jazz and only return to being simply very good when playing live recordings (I think I read somewhere the 'direct reflecting' system which is supposed to replicate live music hinders actual live recordings on Bose). I simply cannot understand why people often state Bose is more marketing than substance. Even if that were true, in the car world, (car's are my first 'spending weakness (ahead of music!) BMW or Mercedes, for instance, could have the same criticism levelled at them and yet, as we all know, they have made some of the best automobiles! Sound is truly discernible in the mid-range especially, as I say; I have heard instruments on tracks I never knew were there before. A clear, crisp and defined sound. If anyone has a better recommendation I want to hear it - before I buy my next set for the dining room.

I purchased my 301s second hand (but mint condition) for £200 including wall brackets and connected them to my Arcam Delta 90 amp mainly listening to tape from my Nakamichi Dragon. I also listen to big band music from tape using a Revox B77 Mark 2 deck and radio from a Revox B 261 receiver . Even if I had paid the full price I would be more than happy. I am 85 years old and had any speakers in my time but the 301s are the tops. Wonderful !!!!!.Perhaps I would have liked to listen prior to purchase but I have no regrets. Albert

I bought a pair of 301's Mk 2 from e bay at less than 200 dollars. I was a bit disappointed with their performance - no deep base and the speakers seemed to be struggling with the high notes - i own a pair of studiocraft 220 speakers (made by bose as well) and thought that the 301's would sound better but i was wrong. Ultimately i changed their position and put them in the corner the overall sound improved but im still far from satisfied.

I have purchased my BOSE 301 series 4 speakers 10 years back. I faced a strange problem with it. I have purchased it 10 years back. The wooden part came out from the plastic part. I had to pay a huge amount to repair it from BOSE service center. Moreover I felt the sound burst out when I want to play it a bit loud. The wooden part is not strong enough and tronned out. The grill got dirty easily.
It is probably the best speaker for listening classical music. if the bass could be a little bit stronger it would the best.
The clipping is not tight enough to hold the cable. So it cause malfunction sometimes.
Beyond all obligation it is my favorite. I have spent a excellent time with these speakers.

For the price, these Bose 301 outperform speakers that cost much more. They sound great for classical, Jazz, rock, etc.

Picked up a pair of Bose 301 series 2 at a garage sale. Cabinets were shot but the drivers good. Intended to use them for garage listening. Hooked them up to an Aiwa receiver set to "classical " and "hall." Went about garage work when it dawned on me. "Where is this great sound coming from?" Went back and checked and sure enought the label said Bose 301. Have since had cabinets refiinished and bought a second pair of 301's and have moved all inside and am now ejoying some delightful (never thought I would used that word) sound.

Worth every penny, around £300 and in a range off colours. My 301 speakers are over twenty years old, apart from having to change the main cones they are still one of the best sounding speakers on the market, the first reviewer must have wired them up to a amstrad amp, his review is nonsence, pubs and clubs the world over dont use them for nothing.

Sound very good on the Bose 301! Even the bass, which others have criticised. Very pleased with them. I like the bose sound, the direct/refelect sound works well. Really does fill the room with sound. No sweet spots! Listen to them before you buy. Let your ears decide.

I have a pair of 301 with my Luxman 1000 series for 8 years, and I'm happy with them. I have compared with my friends BW 704 which cost 4 times more expensive, and, no one I have met can say which is better. If you think you can, make a try with your eyes blinded.

I read the first comment and it sounds like its from someone that has a grudge to bare, but they never seem to get around to it. I would ignore it. The 301s are a great intro to a company that the 901s dominate. I have heard these at a friends house and they sold me on Bose. WOW what range. It comes down to attention to detail and a company that puts effort into making great sound and sound engineering a priority, over just putting a knockoff product out to make a buck.

These are to avoid. Do not be fooled by their nice looks. It is a recipe for disaster as you will soon find out, if you waste your time (and money) buying them. Do not be fooled by Bose's Better Sound Through Research - utter nonsense. These are the poorest and terrible sounding speakers I have ever heard. They win this losing contest with flying colors. As you can see, i cannot hide my loathe for these bent wooden boxes. If you are a music lover, you will be very disappointed with these. I use them with NAD C352 Award Winning Amplifier which shows all their flaws mercilessly. I use Chord interconnects throughout. I use the NAD C521 BEE CD player. When watching movies I use them with Yamaha's RXV-1500 7 channel amplifier and the Bose VCS - 30 - Series II surround sound speakers which consists of an equally good looking but bad sounding centre and surround speakers. I have to admit to watching movies these sound a little better (but who knows what a Space ship really sounds like!).

Gee, sounds like some really has an axe to bear with Bose! Come on, they arent THAT bad...especially taking all the other GOOD reviews in mind...but those people probably have some sort of short coming when it comes to sound...
<br/>Great speakers.
