Had we been treated to Ian Simpson's cooking on a night out before retiring to our castle or cottage in the Cairngorms, eating at the Glenkindie Arms Hotel would have been an utter treat. As it was, we were also staying at the hotel. Ian has since closed the hotel. Our first meal consisted of warm mackerel dribbled over with a delicious beetroot and something sauce for me, and gently curried scallops for her. then she had lamb and I had duck. All delicious. Followed by creme brulee and chocolate fondant. The second meal, she had the scallops again and I had the steak (we were eating early). Utter delight. Best of all though were the mushrooms, which you can watch Ian picking from the front lawn (although of course he has another, secret, patch). Should you find yourself in need of superior food at an extraordinarily low price while touring Deeside, then this is a destination restaurant. Just don't ask to stay there.
