“15plate broken 3times now, help? ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ConnerMacKinnon on 28/11/2015

I have a Jonway madness yy125 that's a 15 plate. Now the bike has broken 3 times and I've had it 6months, first the frame under the exhaust shaped clean of while riding sorted the problem for now but probably won't pass it's Mot in 3years. Secondly the exhaust pipe snapped so I had to buy a new exhaust now it sounds like a tank!! And now the drive belt has snapped wicth I'm Gunna have to fix. So my advice is not to buy these Chinese bikes because they fall apart every time you ride it and to save up to get a better named bike. If anyone knows what I can't do think it's still under warranty but every time I call motorbike madness they never answer or Say send them pictures of the bike to there email address wicth I can't seem to find

I feel your pain!!!! My sons Jonway Madness YY125Y-31 is nearly 6 months old and had to have ; steering stem adjustment x2,new tyre as original had a slow puncture and couldn't be repaired, throttle tube split, battery dead bought recharger, exhaust clips snapped and exhaust rusted up so badly that there was holes despite kept in a garage. Its a nightmare that goes on. After the second service the mechanic picked up that the kick shaft was broken yet my sons never used it to start the bike! gauges stick, front bulb gone, ill fitting petrol cap.Its hard to get parts as its a new model, some garages wouldn't touch the bike but all said that its poor quality and is not suitable for our wet/damp climate. and the retailer is non cooperative.SO.PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST.

“jonway yy125t-3 brand new”

written by perseus700 on 23/02/2015

Firstly noticed a no star rating here these bikes are dangerous and should be illegal I bought a Jonway 125 brand new, second day of owning battery died then the mirrors fell off (Unbelievable) I'm 35 I ride with great care 3rd day would not start cause dirt got into the fuel. ow? and on the 4th day this bike lost all power throttle gave up leaving me doing 45 miles an hour on a busy road nearly died. I'm still hurt from that heart attack. rang up Motobike madness they were not surprised and told me its going to cost 100 pound to pick up! I had this bike for 5 days and now about to sue this company its A life threatening contraption and would advise new riders or old to stay away! that price will get you killed 700 quid not worth your life also the attitude is very low the director has not spoke with me rather let his wife/receptionist do the talking I am currently in talks with trading standards and have reported to them on the safety issue and concerns I have I am currently trying to get my money back motorbike madness have said no today is the 6th day iv owned this bike and ridden twice disgraceful service, disgraceful bike. No stars this is a trick to get your money.

look around on enthusiast forums. they stress how very important Scooter PDI is. While a $$$ Honda gets hands-on Honda Tech Love pre-sale those Bargain Asian scoots that are sold at gas stations or arrived crated at your house ALSO need TLC. And here you are, and it's a lovely day, and you have no clue. if you educated yourself pre-purchase you would have made sure scooter was checked top to bottom, you would know all sorts of manufacturing debris is in those empty gas tanks, you wouldn't have bought from that seller and you would slowly break the scooter in properly. Google "Scooter PDI by The Big Guy", print it out, get your tools and go to it. You'll have a scooter that is nicey nice and you'll stop bad mouthing cheap imports. Do the work, i'm serious.

Good points buying these type of machines if you have no mechanical aptitude is asking for trouble. They are cheap for a reason buy a new big name machine if you don't want trouble.

“Jonway Madness 50cc yy50qt-28 Scooter Review”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 15/05/2013

I have owned my Jonway Madness 50cc yy50qt-28 scooter for around 3 years, I bought it when I was 17 because car insurance was just too expensive. It was only a year old when I bought it and it was in pretty good condition with only a few scuffs. I got a pretty good deal on it as it was near to me and came with all the extras; helmet, gloves, jacket, cover. For the first 6 months I had no issues with it, however even from day one it was never a high performance vehicle. The first problem I had was when the throttle cable snapped, while I was on a busy roundabout so things could have been bad! Although I knew what the problem was so it was pretty easy to fix by just buying a new cable. I also had a problem with the latch on the seat, it broke so that it would not lock. I fixed it by adding a piece of metal next to the pin to keep it from moving, on ebay I have seen people selling this type of scooter before with this problem so I think it's just another design problem. I also had another problem with the scooter being intermittent after the carb became loose which was very frustrating as it became undrivable and I had to push it 2 miles to my house. I also had an issue with the drive belt, it snapped while on my way home but again the problem was easy to diagnose and this happens with most vehicles with age. I also had an issue with the spark plug with failed and left me stranded but this was easy to fix. The battery also failed quicker than I expected but I didn't really think it was worth replacing as it only meant that the electric start wouldn't work but the kick start did the job fine. However the most frustrating issue I have ever had with it was when the rollers had flat spots on them and the variator failed. This happened gradually but left the moped almost undrivable because the drive ratio was constantly wrong. So when you stopped at a roundabout for example, when pulling away it was like being stuck in 4th gear and I had to resort to pushing it with my feet to pick up speed. It also wouldn't go down a 'gear' easily so when going up a hill it wouldn't lower the gear ratio and it went so slowly I could barely get above 15mph and had to rock backwards and forwards at time to gain momentum! The good things about this scooter is basically because it's cheap. If you buy one new they cost around £700 or you can pick up a used one for around £400. The insurance is pretty good too, it only cost me £130 a year and tax is only £15 a year. It's also good on petrol too, it's a 4 stroke so you don't need to worry about 2 stroke oil. I used to use premium unleaded and it only cost me £5 to fill up so it's good on money. However I wouldn't recommend anyone buy one of these or for that matter any chinese moped. The problem is that they are badly designed and cheap. Even when it was performing fine my friends who had 2 stroke scooters like yamahas or aprilias could go faster and had much better acceleration. If you look at one of these chinese scooters you can easily notice how they are designed badly, for example all the screws just screw directly into the plastic mould instead of having a nut and bolt. So it can crack the plastic and also all the screws rust easy and it can be hard to replace them. It is also harder to get parts for, there are many performance parts around for other makes but the chinese scooters can be quite difficult to buy for. They look appealing because of the price however you get what you pay for. You are far more better off just spending a bit extra on a better scooter. So DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE!

“Lots of scooter for the money”

★★★☆☆

written by jonathan kelly on 10/07/2011

I was reduced to getting the cheapest bike I could as I was broke. Cheap not only to buy but also run. I live in the London Brough of Southwark which is a very congested place so performance is not important. On ebay I noticed the Jonway. It had a start price of £300 even though it was only two years and had only covered 3500 kilometers about 2300 miles. I bid £325 for it as it looked good and I liked the name Jonway as my name is Jon. I was very pleased to win the auction for this lightly used bike as £315 is cheap. I picked up the bike a few days later and was quite happy as it is a big bike for a 125cc and so quite comfortable for me to ride as I weight in at 19 stone over the weight limit on many scooters. My Jonway has automatic transmission. My Jonway is easy to ride and has a top speed of 80kph. Fuel consumption is 140 kilometers per tank full. The tank is very small as it only holds 6 liters. That is then 50mph top speed and 63mpg fuel consumption is not to high really but all of my driving is in town. There is no rear brake to speak of but the front brake is very strong. My Jonway has a big top box on it which is handy for me as it can be used for shopping or deliveries. There is also a handy storage space under the twin seat where I can put my padlock and chain. My Jonway has a rev counter and fuel dial which shows empty after 100 kilometers. I have topped up the oil up once and that is all I have done to it except replaced the rear indicator covers for £10 as they were missing when I bought the Jonway. Jonway parts are avalible on line so easily purchased. My Jonway has now covered about 5500 kilometers the only problem is the top speed has reduced to 65 kph about 40 mph on the red line. Insurance is only avalible from a few specialist companys and is expensive at £175 third party only for such a slow vehicle. Rampdale were the only company that would insure me. I called into a garage to get the Jonway serviced and was quoted £120 as the belt drive needs replacing after only 5500 kilometers of use around town. The day before I was going to have it serviced it was stolen. I got it back the next day and the ignition barrel has been smashed it is about £20 for a new one that means the service would now be £150. I have instead sold the bike on ebay getting £225 for it although at the time of writing I have not heard from the buyer. These Jonway bikes only cost £750 new on ebay so they are well worth looking at if your in the market for a big slow scooter which is easy to ride and good around town. But they are not it seems well made and will need a new belt after only 5000 miles. Advantages: Cheap to buy, easy to ride, bigger than some scooters Disadvantages: small petrol tank, no rear brake power, drive belt only good for 5000 kilometers around town
