Great film, quite long so you get your monies worth. However, if you're an AV fanatic like me you'll notice that some scenes are letterboxes on the blu-ray edition and others not. This is due to the filming of some scenes for iMax (1.78:1) rather than 2.4:1 for 16x9 displays.

“'Why so Serious' Review”

★★★★★

written by haz4lifer8 on 07/01/2013

I had already watched the Batman Begins before seeing The Dark Knight which had sparked a love for the masked vigilante, so I went into the film with high anticipation and the film topped that. I found the acting from all the actors astounding especially Heath ledger's performance. I believe he made the film as his dark comedic character was in my eyes, the greatest screen villain. His death is a large loss to the worlds film industry moreover, the other actors were brilliant like Michael Caine and Christian Bale. The film was packed with action however it had a story behind it which Christopher Nolan created perfect. There were many twists and turns throughout the film which kept me as a viewer very interested as the film is 152 minuets long. It was packed with many gadgets and vehicles which any person in there right mind would love. However what called out with me the most was that it wasn't like any other superhero film on the market like spider man or daredevil ( don't get me wrong I really enjoyed these films) as I found it was more mature then other comic book adaptations which have been on the market. This is why i have rated this film a 5 star and I would recommend this film to anyone who enjoys great thrillers, and a great film for anyone in the family from 12-70 to enjoy.

loved the dark imagery of the whole movie! a great twist to the batman series! i wish they could have picked a more charasmatic actress to play the part of rachel than Maggie Gyllenhaal, though. Christian Bale, Micheal Cain, and Heath Ledger definitely outshone her by far!

Seeing The Dark Knight was definitely a good evening out at the cinema and I would definitely recommend this film to a friend, but despite the amazing performance by Heath Ledger as the joker, the film didn't live upto its expectations and this has to be down solely to he lousy script writers. I found the plot to be also laughable in places. Bits were either far too obvious or just simply didn't add up. It was not as good as Batman Begins. Bale was pretty impressive in the first one, but in this he feels very bland, but then I guess Batman as a super hereo has always been quite bland. But do go and see it... !

“Best Film 2008: The Dark Knight, Best Director:...”

★★★★☆

written by dferry08 on 08/09/2008

Best Film 2008: The Dark Knight, Best Director: Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight, Best Actor: Heath Ledger, The Joker, The Dark Knight.

Well, those will be the Oscar results if there's any justice. The Superhero has always been a huge genre in the film world, and The Dark Knight sets the bar way way high. I would like to begin this review by talking about Christopher Nolan. Batman and Batman returns were good movies. Then what followed were Jim Carey, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Nicole Kidman, Tommy Lee Jones etc etc doing their almighty best to ruin Batman. Movies that were just about making huge amounts of money and not giving a damn about the history of Batman. But thanks to Nolan, Batman has reached the top of the mountain as the best superhero out there.

Following on from the outstanding Batman Begins, this film was always going to have a tough job to make Batman even better. We rejoin the Bat (Christian Bale) as he continues his fight against the mob who have gained a new friend. And his name's The Joker (Heath Ledger), the greatest villain of this generation. Which brings me to Heath Ledger. Now after his death in January of this year, many pessimists will use that as the sole reason as to why everyone was so impressed with his performance. But, quite simply, Ledger is fantastic. Evil, arrogant and downright hilarious, he makes The Joker role his own.

Batman appears to have gained his own friend in charismatic Distric Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhat). Dent is an elected official who is determined to stamp out crime in Gotham City. Both have Commissioner Gordon on their side, played by the terrific Gary Oldman, and are both battling for the heart of Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal).

The Dark Knight is an amazing spectacle. Every performance is fantastic (a big shout out also to Michael Caine who is terrific again as Alfred), the action scenes are immense, and the direction of Nolan fantastic. The film, at a length of over 2 hours, flies by, and once the credits roll you'll be disappointed its all over - after you've finished applauding that is.

I agree with this review because...It was a great movie. However to say it was the best film of 2008 and give it an 8/10? How is that possible?

The old clich . Does the end justify the means? May Batman kill for the greater good? How far may the good man go in eradicating evil?
Easy answer: Bruce could have got himself elected, had a public mandate to stamp out wrong doing, got the girl and not had to engage in lengthy angst about his crusade. Simply don't know why he didn't think of it!

Ledge was hypnotic at first but hard to sustain the act over 2 and a half hours.
Caine was Caine.
Morgan Freeman was - yep, you guessed it. And by the way, if he had scruples about the use of mobile 'phone surveillance then why didn't he quit right away?
TwoFace. I thought he was a decent chap. Why did he go loopy?

It just doesn't stand up. That's OK in most action pix because they're unassuming entertainment. But this one seems to think it's got a heavy moral message. Takes itself so seriously but I'm afraid I found it dull.

I'm a self confessed Batman hater. I went to this film having refused to watch a Batman flick before and I only watched it because of Heath Ledgers appearance as the Joker.
I'm now converted...
The Dark Knight is jam packed with action, adventure and anarchy, courtesy of the iconic Joker.
The limelight is on the recently deceased Heath Ledger who doesn't fail to impress as Batman's arch enemy. This is a must see movie for everyone- don't miss it.

I rarely go to the Cinema these days but feel I may have to go and see this again as It was so enjoyable. Whilst being billed as an action flick Batman The Dark Knight has many other qualities and would please most people who like a good modern film. There is a great amount of philosophy embedded in the movie which is quite subtle, this was a pleasant surprise.

Aaron Eckhart (Two Face) Gary Oldman (Lt Gordan) and Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox) we also oustanding and perfectly cast in their respective roles. There are also a few laughs to be had.

“The Dark Knight has certainly and slightly morbidly...”

★★★★★

written by Quibbon101 on 28/07/2008

The Dark Knight has certainly and slightly morbidly benefited from Heath Ledgers death, people have a fascination with seeing a posthumous performance and with one as sophisticated and mesmerising as Ledgers it is easy to see why. As such the film has been hyped for weeks before it's release date and as I went to watch at the Imax on the 25th of July I was turned away as it had been sold out all day. Yet as I moved to a normal screening I couldn't help feeling that what is essentially a pseudo superhero movie, Batman has no powers, the film could never live up to the hype.
I was thankfully wrong, this film is a brilliant film, a blockbuster with more brains than many of the independent films out there. However anyone who has children think before you take them to see this because this film is dark and I mean very dark. Not in the way that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is but truly dark. I wonder in fact how it got a 12A rating. Sure it never shows the guys cheeks getting cut open or the pencil go into the mans head but it tells you it happened and that is possibly even more disturbing.
The performances are brilliant with every actor and I mean every one putting their heart and soul in. Ledger is certainly the stand out performer however he does have brilliant lines and an ensemble cast to act off. Harvey Dent is another good actor who manages to create sympathy around his character after he turns to Two-Face. However the Two Face part is somewhat of a problem. I do wonder if this film even at 2hours 30 needed two villains.
However it is things like that that make the film so original, there is in some way's no real plot, things just happen but with the focus on the chaotic nature of the joker this makes sense and represents the character. There are times when it seems as if you not watching a comic book movie but a psychological thriller. This film doesn't pander to the audience. It is what it is and asks you simply to watch and judge it one what it does.

This film was ok, I thought the action was mediocre and batman was boring but Heath Ledger was brilliant and the Joker alone made it worth paying the admission fee.

written by on 27/07/2008

The Dark Knight should not only be looked upon as a great superhero movie, but an amazing stand-alone film. This is art, a masterpiece of cinematic beauty. The Cast was fantastic, especially the legendary Heath Ledger. Not meaning to agree with every review out there, Heath couldn't have had a better final performance, with his portrayal of the joker being overwhelmingly fantastic. The problem with his joker, is that a man who does so many evil things should be hated, but you couldn't help but laugh when he blew up a hospital in his nurse's outfit! Anyone, Batman fan or not should go and see this film because it is definitely the best piece of film in 2008, possibly in the last decade. Staggeringly Magnificent.

I agree with this review because when I stood up from my sit after the film had ended, I had a terrible headache which means action scenes was extremely tensing. And I remember I was sweaty. Some people might say Ledger's Joker doesn't deserve an Oscar, just let them talk rot. This man (May God have mercy on him) just blazed a trail, so many people couldn't be wrong.

“If ever a movie lived up to all the hype surrounding...”

★★★★★

written by Bozinator on 27/07/2008

If ever a movie lived up to all the hype surrounding it, The Dark Knight is the one. You start off with a great story, throw in a great cast of actors, add a lot of adrenalin inducing action and you've got one heck of a great movie experience. Heath Ledger gives an outstanding performance as The Joker, one of the most psychotic movie villains of all time. Reprising their roles from "Batman Begins" you have Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/The Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred, Bruce Wayne's/Batman's butler, Gary Oldman as police Lt. James Gordon and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox, who basically runs Wayne Enterprises and procures all the equipment Batman uses. Maggie Gyllenhaal takes over the role of Rachel Dawes from Katie Holmes and Aaron Eckhart joins the cast as District Attorney, Harvey Dent. We start out with what looks to be a simple bank robbery, but find nothing is as simple as it seems. The crime syndicates of Gotham City are soon meeting to decide what to do about the gung ho District Attorney, the police department and Batman, when approached by The Joker with a proposition to rid the city of Batman and return Gotham to it's previous crime ridden ways. They of course soon find that this plan too is not as simple as it might seem. There is plenty of action, thrills and entertainment in this movie. I highly recommend it.
