“Lousy mainstream-film, predictable story without any depth”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 23/02/2014

I was really disappointed. The makers of that film seemed to think: it cannot fail if it is set in space. The story is so far fetched, that it is not catching, very superficially "spiced up" with some emotions (she had a daughter who died, so nothing to go back to earth for...) and the deep philosophical potential is floating around and left in the lurch just as the actors. Some shocking pictures of dead astronautes, to raise tension. Very poor and even boring. You just don'T walk out before the end, because you cannot believe that "that was it", you think something great and interesting has to happen, some profound awareness in the end? - Nope. Just another Hollywood-attempt to get money.

“Stunning with superb acting”

I decided not to read anything about Gravity before going to see it in the cinema. I had heard that it was really good but I had (bad) memories of George Clooney in Solaris so I tried not to believe any hype. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star as a first time space flight scientist and veteran astronaut respectively. I won't spoil the film by describing the story but needless to say it is set in space and is jam packed full of drama and tension. This film had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I got so involved with the characters that by the end I was blown away. The graphics are also incredible, I watched in 3D and thankfully it was only used to enhance the film not become some "wooooo look at the stuff constantly coming out at you" fest. If you enjoyed films like Sunshine and Moon then Gravity is well worth watching in the cinema whilst you can catch it. Sandra Bullock, as ever, is simply brilliant in her role and just continues to impress me. As a bonus, the film is only 90 minutes long!
