The DR-2510C is a small USB desktop sheet feeding scanner. It will handle up to 50 pages at a time and will scan both sides of the page. It has a TWAIN interface which means it will work with most third party applications that can accept scanner input. It will scan in both colour and black and white at up to 600DPI. It has an ultrasonic double feed detection which will halt the scan if more than one page is picked up by the sheet feeder. It scans at 25ppm.
I bought this scanner as I needed to analyse 300 pages of printed reports by scanning, then converting the scanned input to Excel. I have been very impressed with the accurancy of the ourput from the scanner and the speed at which it works. The ultrasonic double feed detector means that I can be confident that all the pages have been scanned and none missed. If it detects a double feed the scanning is halted and I can reload the pages and try again. I only need to continue from the page that double fed (not rescan the whole document).
Since then I have used it to scan large amounts of personal paperwork which has reduced my filing considerabely.
It comes with Canon’s Capture Perfect scanning software, eCopy, PDF, Pro Office and Omnipage, Paperport and Bizcard Reader. The most useful inclusion is Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard. This will scan documents straight to PDF and OCR them so the scanned documents become searchable.
This is a great peice of kit, I have scanned several thousand pages now with very few problems. OK, some types of paper are more prone to double feeds but most go though without a problem. It is easy to set up and takes up very little space when not being used.
