“Imire, an amazing experience”

Written on: 27/03/2014 by Lindseyb54 (1 review written)

Having previously volunteered with another project in Africa, I was excited at the prospect of returning and looked into several projects trying to find my best fit. I was interested in a project that involved conservation, community work, as well as the opportunity to work closely with animals. Imire not only met these expectations, but went above and beyond in what it offered. From the moment I arrived at Imire, I felt welcomed. The staff working with the volunteers, the animal handlers, as… Read Full Review

“The wonderful world of Imire”

Written on: 16/03/2014 by MilaGC (1 review written)

Early 2014 I spent a month at Imire and when the time came to leave, I couldn’t. That in itself should tell you all you need to know! However, for want of painting a slightly bigger picture, I’ll go on. Having been fortunate enough to be part of a fair few different volunteer projects around Africa I can safely say that Imire has taken top spot. Spending your days up close and personal with some of Africa’s most beautiful animals, getting to know their wonderful handlers, watching… Read Full Review

“An amazing time in Zimbabwe!”

Written on: 02/08/2012 by CharleyL (1 review written)

With a month off work and a limited budget I searched for a place where my time could be spent fostering my passion for animals and contributing to a worthy conservation initiative. Imire fit the profile exactly. As a volunteer I was not only able to build valuable relationships with the knowledgable and friendly staff, but also with the beautiful elephants, rhino and lions I had the privilege of handling. The accommodation were remarkably clean, the food delicious and the programme… Read Full Review

Elephantvoice's Response to CharleyL's Review

Written on: 19/11/2012

Could you please give me more details about your experience? I am considering volunteering for 8 weeks but want to make sure this organization is legit in what they claim to do. I read you have to feed lions, hyenas and crocodiles. Why is this? Why are those animals in enclosures when this is supposedly a rhino and elephant conservation? I am trying to understand the purpose of them being there, how they came to be there, how they are treated, why they aren't in a reserve hunting for themselves. Do you have any of these responses? Any details you can give me would really be appreciated.
