Holly tree is a poor excuse for a riding school, some of their horses should have been retired and put out of work a long time ago yet, to our understanding they are STILL in full work which is absolutely ridiculous. They are unprofessional and get the kids to do all of their work for them, so they are getting paid for just sitting back and bossing around children as young as 7-15 years of age. I found this riding school absoloutely Appauling and eventually pulled my daughter and her friend away from there as they were crying in the car home every time they went and it was just getting far too much. The people there are utterly unfair and judgemental therefore they couldn't learn properly in an environment so unfriendly. Horses are treated unfairly as they stay tacked up ALL day and have like an hour in total rest every day which is terrible. we now have our own horse and I can assure you that we will never be returning to holly tree, except maybe with an inspector! They are only ever on a bit of form and have a bit of strategy when they know someone is watching what they are doing e.g. Inspectors&viewers! This riding school is not about helping children or their horses it is just about the CASH!

My daughter rode there for 6 years and never had a dull moment! She learnt more and more and got to the highest lesson and she loved it. They had a brilliant outdoor arena and horses which are trustworthy and so gentle to look after. She only left last year as she did other activities and was going through her big exams. So I just wanted to say Thankyou for all of her time there and I would strongly recommend it to all of my friends

I recently had an hour long lesson at the Holy Tree which was an experience best forgotten. The staff were incapable of planning a lesson, which was extremely unstructured and rushed. One of our horses refused to trott under any circumstances, and after much effort was put down to rider inability. Not the nicest approach, especially when said rider is experienced. In addition to this, our instructor repeatedly tried to cut our lesson short on numerous occasions. After the first attempy i was forced to tell the instructor to continue, upon which point she stormed out to check the time. Low and behold, we had another 20 minutes left. Utterly shambolic.

Hideous place, I think they play on the novice. I was shocked to learn they put novice riders on ponies backed for only a few weeks with gawpy primary school kids leading them. The pinnacle of the experience was seeing the instructor kick a horse up it's backside to get it in canter. Disgraceful.

This place is terrible, unhappy staff which don't stay long, lessons uninteresting and never get the full time that was paid for, money grabbing and not interested in their clients, people tend not to go back here look around there are much better places.

Not very professional establishment, only out to take your money, be careful not to purchase vouchers as they dont tell you that if you dont use them you cant get a refund. the owner and the staff disclose the bare minimum and lack any sense of customer service or goodwill. If you plan to take a child there for lessons think twice. Even the instructors walk out which shows what a poor business it is, money grabbing with no interest in building a rapor just how much they can take. disgusting, should be ashamed as an owner and I will ensure I tell as many people in the industry as I can.

My children have had lessons at Holly Tree for the last year they have progressed more there than at two of the other schools I have been to. The ponies are lovely and so are the teachers

Upon arrival of this establishment I have to say it all looked lovely. The reason we were there was because I had booked my son in for his very first riding lesson and this riding school was the nearest and in addition to that the lessons were very reasonably priced, but low and behold their has never been a truer saying than you get what you pay for! When we first stepped out onto the car park I noticed their was broken glass which I had to tell my 7 year old son to avoid, I guess this should have rang alarm bells to me then, but my son was so excited that we couldn't go back. Their was one riding lesson that had just finished and the young jockeys had dismounted and our medium sized queue was told to let our children go forward to the ponies. I have to say at this point I was quite shocked that the poor same animals were being used again for another lesson. The instructor seemed reasonable within her capabilities, but lacked concentration as she also took calls on her mobile phone. This I have to say alarmed me some what, because as I stated earlier this was my son's very 1st lesson. Their was a young girl that was leading the pony round that my son was on but she had an expression on her face that looked like she really didn't want to be doing so. The arena itself is very dark and gloomy and the viewing area had filthy seating with bits of crisps over one of the chairs. The overall experience we had from this place I have to say was a very poor one and I for one would not return again. in short, their are plenty of reputable riding schools around the area as I have found after my visit to this one and as I have owned my own horse a few years back now, I know that this stables is of exceptionally poor standard!

That's nothing! When I had a pony on loan there I was treated terribly!! Sometimes, I was so busy looking after everyone else's horses that I didn't even get to see my own! And when my ponies neighbour, poppet, got pregnant, they gave the girl loaning her paddy(my loan pony) when there was plenty of other horses available! And after all of that she got a different horse because paddy was too slow... And then her excuse was that paddy was lame so I couldn't have him anyway but I was long gone after my poor boy got abscess! £175 a month was not worth it!

Good to see a real review posted. There is definitely a few things not quite right about this place, my daughter always complained about the staff and at first I thought nothing of it, I recently expressed some concerns and received an earful of abuse so it's definitely worth paying a bit more and moving onto one of the more reputable schools.
