We waited 20 minutes in the rain to see Dionne Warwick and were regalled by Joe Stilgoe (perhaps Richard's son?) and his 3 piece jazz band and as the rain stopped, we had another 20 minute break before Ms Warwick was due on stage.
No one introduced Ms Warwick's band (i thought they were sound checking), nor did they introduce Ms Warwick.
What I had thought was a mic sound check man, was, in fact, a scruffily clad, baseball capped Ms Warwick.
Not a sign of a frock, nor a bit of bling anywhere!!!
It was damp, but warm, and underneath my 3 waterproof layers, I had my best clothes on, a full face of make up and sparkly jewellery, which is more than can be said for Dionne!!!
A nasty baseball jacket (sans bling), an even nastier sweatshirt (also unadorned), a pair of jeans you wouldn't be seen dead in, and a pair of navy blue trainers!!!
Now I know it's not The Royal Albert Hall and she's not as bling tastic as Shirley Bassey and I am also aware she's 71 and doesn't want to slip in the wet in a pair of heels, but come on! A little bit of effort please!
She sang all the songs I wanted, but left after an hour, with no encore and quite frankly for £34 and her history, i was quite disappointed.
She has re-vamped some of her more famous songs for a new album "say a little prayer" for example and although it's nice to hear something sung in a new way, I wasn't overly impressed. Her high range isn't there anymore, so I understand the revamping but all in all, from the dowdy clothes and short time she was on stage, I was more impressed with Joe Stilgoe!!!
Poor show indeed Dionne Warwick!!!
