I received a call from Hays after applying for a job online. The guy seemed nice, said he had seen my CV, they had already filled the position I was applying for, but a firm I had previously worked for were looking for someone. He then had me chasing my tail all day, calling every half hour, getting me to tweak this and that on my CV until it was the way he wanted it, and finally said he had 30 minutes to get mine and another two CVs round to the Office Manager at the firm concerned, as they were making an immediate decision. He said he would get back to me that evening, even if he had to call from home. I was impressed. I then heard nothing. I called repeatedly over the next few days and when I finally got hold of him, he said emphatically that they weren't interested in me at all. I was a bit upset as I had worked for the company previously, and they had said they were very happy with me and would re-employ me if the chance came (I was made redundant).
I then happened to bump into my old Office Manager a few weeks later, and she was totally ignorant of my application. She had never received anything from Hays and said if she had, there's a good chance the job would have been mine. She is the sort of person who would tell you to your face if she had decided on another candidate, so I believe her. I tried to get hold of the guy at Hays, but he wouldn't take or return any of my calls from that day on.
The upshot is, this company cost me a job, I still don't have one after 4 months now, and they have never contacted me again. Avoid!
