“The reason recruitment gets a bad name”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SamaraMcCormack on 12/10/2015

BMS Egham are the reason the recruitment industry gets a bad name. Here are my reasons:

Spoke to a Consultant - Very aggressive nature and questioning and generally negative! Especially considering it was the first time we spoke. You're not Alan Sugar, you're not a dragon, you're a recruiter! Plus...you called me!

Your job isn't to attempt to rustle a potential client's feathers to see how they'll react under pressure. For an initial call, try getting to know the person on the other side of the CV - you'll build a much more positive relationship with them and get much more out of them.

If you don't have a job in mind for me, don't contact me. I spent 20 mins on the phone to this guy before I eventually had to cut him off and ask if he actually had an opportunity in mind (the answer was no). Perhaps this was me being naive in my dealings with recruitment calls?

He then asked if I wanted to have the exact same conversation with someone in their marketing division since he didn't have a job he could put me forwards for. Bearing in mind this is during office hours..What a waste of time!

Even from one phone call, I could tell that BMS just play a numbers game. The more candidates they speak to, the more opportunities to earn commission. There's more to the process than money. In fact, if you build a positive relationship with client and candidate, you'll do better as a business overall.

If you treat your potential income like rubbish, you're not going to earn any - simple.

The recruitment industry is a hugely over saturated market. Not all are as bad as them. Save yourself some time and find an agency who actually cares and is more professional in the way it sends it's kids to find commission.
