We owned this unit for 4 1/2 years and had trouble with several pink dots and blobs on the screen. The picture seemed to worsen as time passed and eventually the bulb expired. We were so unhappy with this unit that we didn't even bother to order another bulb. We replaced it with a different brand and will not own another sony product.

I will never buy anything sony again. They used to be top of the line and now are just junk. Lamp burnt out in less than a year. The Optic sensor went out after 2 years. It is an $1100 part. I will never buy Sony again. My $89 dollar tube TV has last 3 times as long already as this $1800 tv.

The Sony KF-42WE610 is the worst tv i've ever had, bulb went bad several times in 4 years. Plastic cover that it supposed to provide protection from ultraviolet excess melted down. I'd like to have my money back; if I can't get it then I'll never buy a sony produt ever again. I'll make sure to tell every person I know to do the same.

Sony KF-42WE610 Review - Bulb burnt out after 2000 hours and now there is a big purple blob on the screen over $1000.00 to fix TV's 4 years old. After reading reviews Sony should not have sold this TV or they should have recalled and replaced all of them!! Sony offered me a new model 42" at a cost to me of $1000.00 what a deal, spending $5000.00 in 4 years on sony TV's. They did not handle this situation well, all about them not about the consumer!

I personally will never bring another Sony product into my house! I have continually contacted Sony with my dissatisfaction of this very expensive set, I paid $2,799.00 in Oct. 2003 to Circuit City for this on going nightmare!

I can't tell you how many problems we've had with the Sony KF-42WE610. I agree with an earlier review "a big, heavy paperweight". My light burned out again and now the sound isn't working. Unfortunately the warranty just ran out (it's been a year and 2 months) and I'm going to have to pay for it!

I purchased my Sony KF-42WE610 4 months ago. I'm happy with the picutre and the price was right. I'm not happy with the popping sound and I don't know how to fix it yet.

I swore I would never buy another big screen no matter who made it and against my better judgement I did it anyway. I would have been much happier with a CRT tube than this piece of rubbish. Maybe a HD tuner will improve the picture quality, but I'm on Dish Network for crying out loud and you think that it would be crystal clear.

I've had the Sony Grand Wega for about 3-4 months with no problem with the bulb going bad. I am very happy with the sound and picture and I think it presents a great value compared to the plasmas and direct view LCDs.

I've had this Sony KF42WE610 Rear Projection Television for 3 months and the bulb has blown already. I found out at Circuit City that this is a well known issue internally at Sony. I was told that Circuit City has had over 80,000 complaints to date.
Sony is sending me a new bulb at No-Charge but at $200 each I'll be spending $800 per year in bulbs after the 1 year warranty runs out. I want a new but different model. The reviews I've read so far say this model is Sony's YUGO!!!!!

When this Sony KF42WE610 Rear projection television works, it's fantastic. However, the bulb/power failure problem (mine started collapsing on day 3 after delivery) renders the set a rather large, expensive paperweight. It would be interesting if Sony actually provided the failure rate stats to its customers (hah!). The tech repair people are fully aware of the problem, and advised me they have a "mod" to fix it. Why would Sony put out a "mod" if they didn't perceive there was an endemic problem with this set (my set's manufacture date is February 2004)? Would Bentley dealers continue to sell cars from their showrooms if they knew there was an outstanding design problem that would render a considerable number of them entirely inoperable? I think not.
I'm having my set fixed (at Sony's cost) and then will return it within my 30-day return period. Undoubtedly, they'll eventually pawn it off on some other unsuspecting Sony customer.

It's defective! The lamp on the Sony KF42WE610 blew out in 3 weeks. It was allegedly fixed, then blew out again 3 weeks later. The repair nightmare (which is ongoing) is a whole other story. Sony even had the tech come back to replace some boards and transistors because of a product defect--these apparently caused the lamp to arc everytime it was turned on and led to its early demise. Each time it blows out I have to wait a week for a repair appointment. I've read other reviews detailing the same problem. Sony refuses to replace the TV and claims it is "operating according to specs."

Hi, My lamp just blew 6 months after buying the thing. I really don't want to go through the hassle of dealing with replacements after replacements. You'd think after Sony heard enough about this problem, they'd do something about it. Ha! Maybe if we all got together on this issue, we could sue! (gotta love the American way).

hi! i`m glad I read your review. I`ve been considering puchasing this tv. after reading this review, and knowing sonys response, that it is normal for these $200.00 bulbs to go bad. they are going to have law suits out the but. thanks again. before I dump $2400.00 on a paper weight. sincerely, pete

IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER - YOU ARE NOT ALONE. THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME. BUT MINE WILL BE REPLACED - BUT NOT WITH ANOTHER "SONY". IT'S SAD BECAUSE YOU BUY WHAT YOU BELIEVE IS A CREDITABLE PRODUCT WITH A CREDITABLE NAME AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENS!!!!
