I first got hold of Urban Renewal in '74, when Tower Of Power was still quite an obscure band in our part of the world (Scandinavia). I let one of the hottest DJ's in town borrow the album - and he kept it for two years, playing all the major discos in the area... No wonder the band rapidly gained reputation and soon became a favourite of all local funk lovers. Yeah, in my opinion this is the ultimate FUNK record.

Ddd3's Response to Bjarne's Review

I agree with this review because... This is one of ToP's signature outings. The four albums from 'Bump City' to this one plus the later 'Live and in living colour' set attained a standard that the band never managed to quite achieve again until their most recent recording, 'Oakland zone'.
