We bought this seems like eons ago! sounds good, but have to agree with previous reviews the CD system packed up operating fairly quickly but does work with a little persuasion. Dab radio works on some stations it all depends on the digital reception in your area.
Unfortunately the arial has broken and the radio obviously won't work. I f anyone has a spare one or knows where I can get a replacement can they let me know.

I've had mine for a few years now and I haven't had any problems with the unit and can't fault it. Only slight issue was with the remote which doesn't work too well but this may be to it being dropped a few too many times. Overall, a great piece of kit.

Absolute rubbish! I bought this unit over a year ago, but it only worked for a brief period from the start. As I didn't use it often, I've unfortunately let it go over the guarantee period. Right now it only receives one dab channel, or at least only lets me select a single one. And the some of the segments on the display don't light up and it's so dim you can barely see it.
This Hitachi AX-M68D Hi-Fi unit seems to be a dead duck from the start. Disappointing first start with DAB and rubbish that I paid 179 points for it and can't get it fixed on guarantee anymore :-(
Bought from Currys.

I bought Hitachi AX-M68D Hi-Fi Component System and have to say am impressed with the sound quality on the CD player - But (and there is a but) for the life of me; I cannot get the DAB radio to work. So if there is anyone out there who has any instructions (as I never got any) or there is something you need to do - then please let me know!!

Nice looking unit, pricey at the time to get the DAB and worked well initially. The little pushy buttons were the first to go then the CD player, despite hardly being used, chucked it in.
Looked and sounded good while it lasted.buttons are too fragile, no clicky feedback.
CD player unreliable.
on/off button operates through CD player so if this unit dies the whole system is scrap!

Not bad, but I wouldn't buy another of these..

Not a bedroom machine.
When I switch on my music I don't need the machine to welcome me I expect it to start playing my music. However its nowhere as bad as a Technic's system that drove me mad with the 30 seconds of drivel of useless information it gives you before it lets you decide which function you want it to perform.
It needs a Dim switch.
Like most machines these days the Hitachi AX-M68D remote doesn't match the centres controls. The only machine that ever did was a 5 CD Sony system with a rotary turntable which was whisper quiet. A great machine which died from over-work.

Got the AX-M68D a long time ago, remote never worked properly from day one: works only when it feels like it - and when it does work after an hour or so all buttons make the volume go down. Also I do not seem to receive many DAB stations - even local ones. It does have good sound quality, and the FM radio is good.

Good idea but this Hitachi's internal components are not up to the job.

The Hitachi AX-M68D Hi-Fi Component System DAB digital radio started out good, but I soon found the FM tuner will not pick up many stations. Only 2 FM stations work, even with an external aerial. I can not find anyone to service the set. For these reasons it is now available for £49.99 at Dixons, and I paid £199 just over a year ago.

I have had 2 of these Hitachi AX-M68D Hi-Fi Component System DAB Digital Radios and in both cases the DAB has given up after a short period of use. A friend has had the same problem. Don't buy!

I bought a Hitachi AX-M68D DAB component system because I had an old Hitachi music centre that went on and on, so I decided to replace it with the same make and update to CD and DAB. That was my first mistake. The CD player would not play Cd's so I took it back to DIXONS and they replaced it. The new one did exactly the same, but has now packed up completely. The DAB is great. The sound quality is very good.

The Hitachi AX-M68D Hi-Fi Component System is a lovely unit, easy to set up, picks up DAB and FM beautifully. Trouble started on day two when the cd player refused to recognise discs (originals, not copies). When it does play, it will not allow track-skip function. Purchased from Dixons, they will exchange but only when they can find another (exclusive product line?)
Worth buying? I'd say yes if I can get a replacement but, I will monitor that like a hawk and any failure whatsoever will mean total rejection.

Priced at £99.95 in Dixons I didn't expect much from the Hitachi AX-M68D Hi-Fi Component System to be honest. But this three separate although closely linked section unit with Tuner, Amplifier and CD player mini hi-fi is not only good to look at, it actually performs very well indeed. It even comes complete with its own presentation plinth. The Power output is via 2 x 25W Beechwood stylish speakers, good enough for any small room. Had no trouble pulling in the main DAB or FM stations on the attached telescopic arial. Plenty of preset buttons, remote control. Sleep function. Loud & S-Bass buttons, equalizer selector & headphone socket. Nice relaxing blue illumination when switched on. Ideal for my bedroom/office.

I disagree with this review because...
<br/>
<br/>The previous reviewer has not had his unit very long but I think he'll find the CD player is very unreliable. Indeed there are many part-systems for sale out there (Ebay for example) because the CD player dies and, since repair isn't available, the other bits are just sold off.
<br/>Looks good and the DAB sounds good but the CD player is rubbish.

Oh dear 'Destructo' mine is still going well thank goodness, and it really does get quite a bashing (usage) . Perhaps yours was a 'Friday' one. Sorry to hear/read your experience.
<br/>
<br/>I shall heed your warning and start looking around at other alternatives for the future in case mine suddenly goes wrong if as you state there is no repair facility.

Bertie's Response to waldron010's Review
Written on: 07/12/2005
Commiserations, waldron010. I've had a lot to do with Hitachi products, which I have always found to work well, so there is definitely something suspicious in this instance.
<br>
<br>Bunty McBunty in another review of the AX-M68D muses whether the system is "an exclusive product line", and that coupled with the retailer (who must remain nameless!!) might give a clue.
<br>
<br>Said? retailer has been known to repackage returned goods and sell them again as brand-new. I have had my own experience of this underhand practice concerning a camcorder, so I am not relying on hearsay. Believe me, it gives me no pleasure to relate that fact.
<br>
<br>Your product is faulty and under the sale of goods/fitness for purpose act, you are entitled to demand a full refund of what you paid for the goods. Good luck with it all... Bertie.
