“Package lost and no help whatsoever given!”

I wish I could say something of recommendation as I am generally a "glass half full" kind of guy.
I have been going through a period of receiving lots of packages from various companies recently, and will admit to perhaps losing track of who sent what. I am certainly not generally familiar with the carriers each company uses to make their deliveries.

I first received an email from this company suggesting a delivery was scheduled. No problem. I'd be at work, but I'm aware of the options available should I be unable to receive my parcel personally.

I received another email suggesting the parcel had been delivered and signed by "Friendly". This was also mentioned online when I tracked it on the company website. As I didn't know anyone of this name, and none of my neighbours approached me with a parcel - which would normally be the case - I contacted this company by email to be told told that "The delivery is showing as having been made to a secure location, as allowed by the sender of the item. We have queried this with the depot who have advised that the driver left the item at the post office"
A somewhat different scenario to that first reported! As to which post office, and what I need to collect this parcel from the post office, I do not know and was not told.

I asked for the name of the sender of the parcel, so I could get in touch with them regarding this failed delivery. Seems simple enough. I received the following response: "We are not able to volunteer details regarding who has sent you the parcel."

I called this company, waiting 18 minutes for a response, and after providing my consignment number from the email I received, together with my surname and address, was then told that this consignment number did not belong to me! I was then asked to contact the sender of this item (whatever it is, and whoever it's actually from) and arrange for a replacement. As you can see from my opening sentences, this poses me with a real difficulty. Interestingly, checking the company tracking website again, this consignment number could not be found!

So that's it. I have been informed of a parcel arriving, being delivered, signed for by someone called "Friendly" ( or left in a secure location, or at the post office. Who knows?!). I cannot find out anything from this company that would help me trace the parcel.

So my experience of this company can be summed up in a few words. "UKMail delivers my loss"
