The Peugeot 205 is the classic small supermini hatchback sold between 1983 and 1996 in three or five-door versions. Engines ranged from 954cc to 1905cc in fuel injected petrol and Diesel versions. Known as the French Flyer the 205 is regarded as a modern classic and credited for saving Peugeot's fortunes in the latter part of the last century. Before the 205 Peugeot was considered dull by many for its family saloon range. Early 205s used the Douvrin engine from the older Peugeot 104 although these were later replaced with newer XU and TU-series.



The 205 was an instant hit although production was gradually slowed while joint replacement models Peugeot 106 and Peugeot 306 were brought out eventually stopping in 1996 when it became fully replaced by the 206 in 1998. Over 5,278,000 Peugeot 205s were produced.

  Ladies and gentlemen!I bought my 1.9 Peugot 205 Gti new, in Saudi Arabia in 1993. At the time l was working for a Saudi Oil Company, on the east coast of S.A. I drove it in and around the Eastern Province of S.A. in 40-plus degrees. No problems at all, the A.C. worked impeccably and the car started up each day at the first turn of the key.   I bought my Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 about a month ago for £1600 with 170,000 on the clock but had been fitted with a recon engine in 2001 and that had only done 24,000 in the last 7 years! It has the up rated ECU on it so problems with the idling isn ' t a problem. I love the car and its power is amazing for the age of the car.
