“IF YOU HAVE A RESCUE DOG BEWARE”

Written on: 29/06/2015 by jjHooper396 (1 review written)

We have had our dog for two and a half years he is a rescue dog so we had no history from his past ,he goes to the vet for regular check ups Recently he had a throat infection ,the bill was under £140 so we put a claim in for £40 (£100 excess) the claim was turned down because we didn't have any past history of him they didn't tell us that when we took the insurance out with them two and a half years ago and nearly a thousand pound in insurance payments later IF YOU HAVE RESCUE DOG BEWARE… Read Full Review

“Every trick to not pay”

Written on: 16/05/2015 by simonfry (1 review written)

They tried everything to not pay my claim: 1) claimed I wasn't covered when I am 2) took nearly five weeks to assess my claim 3) lost a receipt by scanning it badly 4) lost my complaint letter and the enclosed new receipt 5) requested original documents two months after receiving the claim 6) paid a reduced amount, falsely claiming that there is a limit on the policy AVOID… Read Full Review

“Wouldnt even recommend to an enemy”

Written on: 22/04/2015 by Draven301 (1 review written)

Absolutely shocking service, I have been waiting 3 months for them to settle a claim for an operation my dog had to have. I have had no correspondence from them and have had to continually chase up only to be told they will not pay out for the claim. In future I will stick with the NFU as during 16 years of them insuring my horse they have never quibbled a claim… Read Full Review

“Changing reasons not to pay!”

Written on: 17/02/2015

My dog had a reaction to either Sainsburys organic beef mince or a white natural chew from the pet shop, his eyes and lips swelled so I took him to the nearest vets just incase the reaction effected his breathing I didn't want to risk being in the car longer to go to my regular vets. He was given a steroid jab and an anti-inflammatory and then the following day the lips and eyes swelling went down but he developed lumps all over his body and head, again the vets Goddards treated him with… Read Full Review

“Any excuse not to pay!!”

Written on: 30/01/2015 by Warner12 (1 review written)

I took out my Policy not having read the reviews here first! wish I had now!! So I rescued my Dog from the dogs trust, he had a full vets exam before they released him to me and all was fine, slightly over weight was all they said. I insured my dog and like a good owner immediately arranged to book him into my own vet for a check up and to get him registered with them. Again, no problems just over weight and needing more exercise.. So a few months later and after trying to build up his… Read Full Review

“waste of money”

Written on: 04/01/2015 by Booneze289 (1 review written)

Our puppy started losing fur from his rear legs and it was symetrical on both sides, vets couldn't work out why so had to perform some biopsies and skin scrapes that cost £550 ,diagnosis was under skin mites that turn out not to be covered by pet protect which vet said she has never come across this stipulation before and not having had pet insurance before I was unaware what to look for in things not covered… Read Full Review

“Terrible Service, and a million excuses not to pay a claim”

Written on: 22/12/2014 by Trystank445 (1 review written)

I insured my cat when he was 3 months old and perfectly healthy. He then developed asthma and ran up £500 in vet fees plus the potential of ongoing treatment costs. The claim was declined because the condition was considered to be "pre exisitng" on the basis that it was noted that he was breathing quickly and nervous on a previous visit to the vet! After much fighting, numerous letters and phone calls with really poorly trained staff they eventually paid out. I'm amazed this company is… Read Full Review

“Couldn't be happier ”

Written on: 18/12/2014 by FrankieTheDogsMummy (3 reviews written)

I insured my dog as a puppy with PetProtect 2 years ago and they have been brilliant. We took a no excess policy in the first year (which I don't think is available any longer) and boy did we use it, mainly due to standard puppy illnesses which can be expensive. No problems or delays with any of the claims we made. I'm currently looking to insure our second puppy and will use PetProtect again. A lot of the complaints on this site seem to be do with people not reading the terms of the… Read Full Review

“Good service during a tough time”

Written on: 13/12/2014 by PomoJ73 (1 review written)

I'm not really sure why our experience with Pet Protect has been so good compared to all these other reviews but that is the case. We took our insurance in July when we got our 12 week old French Bulldog and paid approximately. £37 per month for reasonable cover. Sadly in September our little man was diagnosed with a rare cancer and had a large mass removed and his left kidney and was in hospital for over a week. Goddards asked us to speak to Pet Protect about the illness and advise them we… Read Full Review

“Microchip paperwork still missing!”

Written on: 05/11/2014

I've had my cat for 6 years and recently took her to the vet for dental treatment and to get her microchip details changed to our new address. Only to discover her it was never registered. Both myself & CPL who I adopted the cat from have been in touch with PetProtect informing them change of our new address. Their staff promised the lady at CPL over a month ago that everything was now updated and the paperwork would be sent to me. I'm still waiting! What's the point of microchipping with… Read Full Review

“READ THE SMALL PRINT”

Written on: 21/09/2014 by ChristinaPalmer (1 review written)

Completely caught out by failing to take in that Pet Protect policy I had taken out was £4k total vet fees per year not £4k per incident. My fault but this is ridiculously low with vets fees as they are. There are some much better deals out there which offer £10k or more per incident. Our bad luck was a dog who needed an arthroscopy and broke his leg in his first year. Pet Protect of course then put the insurance premium up to £40 per month to encourage us to go away. This seemed a lot for… Read Full Review

“THEY STILL MAKE YOU PAY PREMIUMS AFTER YOUR PET DIES”

Written on: 17/08/2014

My dog recently had an illness resulting in her being put to sleep at recommendation of vet. When I enquired about cancelling my policy petprotect told me I had to continue paying £47 a month premium for another 6 & 1/2 months (until policy end date) or if I chose to cancel DD they would just deduct the £300 from my claim payout. So basically I'm between a rock & a hard place. After 12 years of premiums from me this is the treatment you get! 6 months paying insurance premiums for a dog that… Read Full Review

Written on: 11/07/2014 by Claudia2k12 (1 review written)

I wouldnt recommend this company to no one, absolutely terrible with claim forms not that it only takes them ages to review the claim forms but then they make something up so you leave them alone and dont have to pay back! They say it covers emergency pet ilnesses and they to jack all about it saying it doesnt cover it! Worst company ever… Read Full Review

“Not Happy ”

Written on: 07/07/2014 by SergioHead (1 review written)

I have my dog and cat insured with this company both having tenant cover policies, which means as well as illness I should be covered for damaged caused to the fixture and fittings. I have tried claiming for vet visits a few times and every time was told that my animal was not covered for that particular illness. Anyhow the latest is my cat decided to claw a big hole in the hall carpet whilst I was away on holiday and upon my return I phoned Pet Protect to tell them I wished to make a… Read Full Review

Quick update, been 3 weeks now since I provided all the info they requested accompanied by my letter of complaint and I've only just had a standard letter back stating they need more time to review my complaint - no reference to my claim whatsoever!!!

I also wanted to point out here that I'm insured with Petpals but I've been getting correspondence from Pet Protect so they must be the same company!

“Not so bad.”

Written on: 02/07/2014 by Pugmax (1 review written)

After reading the reviews I was very worried about getting anything back at all. My pug puppy max who is 18month old was diagnosed with a serious meningitis type brain disease common to his breed and age. I have spent £5200 out of my own money to pay for brain scans, keemo drugs, steroids etc. the best news is max is doing really well and getting back to his normal self. The other good news is after around 25 working days £3450 has been paid direct into my bank no questions. With the balance… Read Full Review

“Disgusted. Absolutely shambles of a company”

Written on: 10/06/2014 by EileenOlson306 (1 review written)

Absolutely diabolical service. My king Charles spaniel has always been insured with pet protect and luckily up till now never had to make a claim. But when recently my dog badly injured his leg they had no intention of paying out. They use every excuse possible. To make things even worse their customer skills are disgusting. I'm having to find over £2500 even thought I've paid my insurance for the last two years!… Read Full Review

“They DID PAY OUT without quibble”

Written on: 26/04/2014 by 28agb (1 review written)

I felt very worried about a claim I made because of the reviews here. I had a policy for 14 years and had to claim when my cat had emergency surgery to remove a mass from her intestines and also needed to be looked after at emergency vet for 3 days. The vet costs were huge, so the long wait, and the thought that they might not pay distressed me. It did take time to get a response but they DID PAY OUT over £2,000 without quibble . There was £100 excess and 20% of vet fees for me to pay… Read Full Review

“Rogue Pet Insurance Company”

Written on: 24/03/2014

I insured my pet cat with this awful company when we bought him from a rescue centre 2 1/2 years ago. Until January this year I have never needed to make a claim. Unfortunately, when I did make a claim I was fobbed off for over 7 weeks with excuse after excuse. Firstly there was a 'high volume of claims due to 'the time of year' what utter rubbish! Then a letter saying my claim would be settled within 10 days, after 13 days, I received the bombshell to say they were very sorry but I was not… Read Full Review

“avoid avoid avoid”

Written on: 12/02/2014 by myboyroy (2 reviews written)

I decided to take a plan with this company for my new dog after they filmed my old dog having acupuncture. I thought wow this company really cares about the treatment offering cover for alternative therapy. In 2010 I took out cover. The plan seemed really good and the excess reasonable with lifetime cover. 6 months in I needed to make a claim. Battle one. Excuses never received the claim. Then yes we have it. Then new system issues finally I received payment after 2 months. Then came the… Read Full Review
