“Don`t Micro Chip your pet with these people”

Written on: 27/04/2016 by johnkenyon (1 review written)

Trying to register a new address for my mothers cat. After loads of questions I was told I had to fill in a change of ownership form and pay another £14.95. I told them I only wanted a change of address and phone number as my mother has moved and no point returning a lost pet to an empty house. I was told it did not matter it is still £14.95. Told them not to bother and am taking the cat to local vet who will re microchip it for £12 and no further charges for any future change of address… Read Full Review

“worst company ever!!! beware”

Written on: 01/03/2016 by tricialusk (1 review written)

my puppy had two teeth removed on 27th November, we submitted our claim and received an email to say that there was information missing. I called my vet who faxed and emailed pet protect on 23rd received a confirmation email. I still had not heard from them so I called again 7 th Jan to hear that there was still information missing, my vet emailed them again, this time in front of me, I called a few more times to then be told that they needed separate information (that they already had) so my… Read Full Review

“Not fit for purpose”

Written on: 10/12/2015 by Cwmbychan (1 review written)

I work at a vets and am involved with Microchipping pets. I've lost count of the clients who haven't received confirmation of their pet being registered. What's frightening is that when they ring Petprotect to query this, there's no record of the pet having a chip at all. What's the point of microchipping your pet if there's no record of it being done? Disgraceful. And miserable people to deal with too. Useless company… Read Full Review

“A avocado would provide better customer service...”

Written on: 02/12/2015 by BL1989 (1 review written)

Given the choice of taking out an insurance policy with Pet Protect or with Frank Ponzi (FYI...Ponzi ran a $250,000 a day investment fraud business in 1920s America...) I'd invest all of my money in Ponzi. Pet Protect increased my payable excess increased after one year with no explanation or notification until after the policy was automatically renewed. The product was not as sold. Yearly increasing excess is quite a pertinent point to be disclosed during the sale of the policy. Operator did… Read Full Review

“Do not bother”

Written on: 20/11/2015 by MyleePollard (1 review written)

I insured my 8 year old Chihuahua with this company and how i wish i had not, firstly having provided them with all the relevant information it then became a constant stream of mail asking for more and more information. Which made me feel as though i was lying and (B)anything but looked after. My dog is extremely healthy so i was unable to give any history, but they would not accept this as the case, i then again had to actually phone the previous Vet we had used to ask him to Email history (of… Read Full Review

“Terrible and useless customer service”

Written on: 09/10/2015 by anitabell (1 review written)

I had nothing but trouble with pet protect when they took annual payment without my authorisation. Since then I was on a phone to them more or less every day where I was first told that a refund will be actioned. A week or so later I was told by their manager that they haven't even received the payment. I had to go out of my way to proof that they have indeed took the payment and I am still waiting. When I email, I do not get a reply. They are keeping my money without my consent and it's… Read Full Review

“Considering Pet Protect - See clause 5.2.11”

Written on: 26/08/2015

Considering using Pet Protect, you may want to refer to clause 5.2.11 You are not covered for "preventative and routine treatments" My old english sheepdog required life saving surgery for a split abdomen, however after making the claim after his operation they advised this was "a preventative procedure". I happen to agree, as it was to prevent him from dying. I can only assume all treatments are either preventative or routine, and therefore can be exempt if they feel the need. So you… Read Full Review

“Avoid this organisation at all costs”

Written on: 18/08/2015 by Francov155 (1 review written)

After insuring 2 pets for 11 years it appears terms & conditions changed 1 year ago. Unfortunately 1 pet recently had to be put to sleep after an illness. WE have discovered that because the policy has a direct debit renewed in april & the pet died in june they are deducting 10 months payments from the bill. Diabolical, even our own vet is astounded. AVOID AT ALL COSTS… Read Full Review

“IF YOU HAVE A RESCUE DOG BEWARE”

Written on: 29/06/2015 by jjHooper396 (1 review written)

We have had our dog for two and a half years he is a rescue dog so we had no history from his past ,he goes to the vet for regular check ups Recently he had a throat infection ,the bill was under £140 so we put a claim in for £40 (£100 excess) the claim was turned down because we didn't have any past history of him they didn't tell us that when we took the insurance out with them two and a half years ago and nearly a thousand pound in insurance payments later IF YOU HAVE RESCUE DOG BEWARE… Read Full Review

“Every trick to not pay”

Written on: 16/05/2015 by simonfry (1 review written)

They tried everything to not pay my claim: 1) claimed I wasn't covered when I am 2) took nearly five weeks to assess my claim 3) lost a receipt by scanning it badly 4) lost my complaint letter and the enclosed new receipt 5) requested original documents two months after receiving the claim 6) paid a reduced amount, falsely claiming that there is a limit on the policy AVOID… Read Full Review

“Wouldnt even recommend to an enemy”

Written on: 22/04/2015 by Draven301 (1 review written)

Absolutely shocking service, I have been waiting 3 months for them to settle a claim for an operation my dog had to have. I have had no correspondence from them and have had to continually chase up only to be told they will not pay out for the claim. In future I will stick with the NFU as during 16 years of them insuring my horse they have never quibbled a claim… Read Full Review

“Changing reasons not to pay!”

Written on: 17/02/2015

My dog had a reaction to either Sainsburys organic beef mince or a white natural chew from the pet shop, his eyes and lips swelled so I took him to the nearest vets just incase the reaction effected his breathing I didn't want to risk being in the car longer to go to my regular vets. He was given a steroid jab and an anti-inflammatory and then the following day the lips and eyes swelling went down but he developed lumps all over his body and head, again the vets Goddards treated him with… Read Full Review

“Any excuse not to pay!!”

Written on: 30/01/2015 by Warner12 (1 review written)

I took out my Policy not having read the reviews here first! wish I had now!! So I rescued my Dog from the dogs trust, he had a full vets exam before they released him to me and all was fine, slightly over weight was all they said. I insured my dog and like a good owner immediately arranged to book him into my own vet for a check up and to get him registered with them. Again, no problems just over weight and needing more exercise.. So a few months later and after trying to build up his… Read Full Review

“waste of money”

Written on: 04/01/2015 by Booneze289 (1 review written)

Our puppy started losing fur from his rear legs and it was symetrical on both sides, vets couldn't work out why so had to perform some biopsies and skin scrapes that cost £550 ,diagnosis was under skin mites that turn out not to be covered by pet protect which vet said she has never come across this stipulation before and not having had pet insurance before I was unaware what to look for in things not covered… Read Full Review

“Terrible Service, and a million excuses not to pay a claim”

Written on: 22/12/2014 by Trystank445 (1 review written)

I insured my cat when he was 3 months old and perfectly healthy. He then developed asthma and ran up £500 in vet fees plus the potential of ongoing treatment costs. The claim was declined because the condition was considered to be "pre exisitng" on the basis that it was noted that he was breathing quickly and nervous on a previous visit to the vet! After much fighting, numerous letters and phone calls with really poorly trained staff they eventually paid out. I'm amazed this company is… Read Full Review

“Couldn't be happier ”

Written on: 18/12/2014 by FrankieTheDogsMummy (3 reviews written)

I insured my dog as a puppy with PetProtect 2 years ago and they have been brilliant. We took a no excess policy in the first year (which I don't think is available any longer) and boy did we use it, mainly due to standard puppy illnesses which can be expensive. No problems or delays with any of the claims we made. I'm currently looking to insure our second puppy and will use PetProtect again. A lot of the complaints on this site seem to be do with people not reading the terms of the… Read Full Review

“Good service during a tough time”

Written on: 13/12/2014 by PomoJ73 (1 review written)

I'm not really sure why our experience with Pet Protect has been so good compared to all these other reviews but that is the case. We took our insurance in July when we got our 12 week old French Bulldog and paid approximately. £37 per month for reasonable cover. Sadly in September our little man was diagnosed with a rare cancer and had a large mass removed and his left kidney and was in hospital for over a week. Goddards asked us to speak to Pet Protect about the illness and advise them we… Read Full Review

“Microchip paperwork still missing!”

Written on: 05/11/2014

I've had my cat for 6 years and recently took her to the vet for dental treatment and to get her microchip details changed to our new address. Only to discover her it was never registered. Both myself & CPL who I adopted the cat from have been in touch with PetProtect informing them change of our new address. Their staff promised the lady at CPL over a month ago that everything was now updated and the paperwork would be sent to me. I'm still waiting! What's the point of microchipping with… Read Full Review

“READ THE SMALL PRINT”

Written on: 21/09/2014 by ChristinaPalmer (1 review written)

Completely caught out by failing to take in that Pet Protect policy I had taken out was £4k total vet fees per year not £4k per incident. My fault but this is ridiculously low with vets fees as they are. There are some much better deals out there which offer £10k or more per incident. Our bad luck was a dog who needed an arthroscopy and broke his leg in his first year. Pet Protect of course then put the insurance premium up to £40 per month to encourage us to go away. This seemed a lot for… Read Full Review
