“READ THE SMALL PRINT”

Written on: 21/09/2014 by ChristinaPalmer (1 review written)

Completely caught out by failing to take in that Pet Protect policy I had taken out was £4k total vet fees per year not £4k per incident. My fault but this is ridiculously low with vets fees as they are. There are some much better deals out there which offer £10k or more per incident. Our bad luck was a dog who needed an arthroscopy and broke his leg in his first year. Pet Protect of course then put the insurance premium up to £40 per month to encourage us to go away. This seemed a lot for… Read Full Review

“THEY STILL MAKE YOU PAY PREMIUMS AFTER YOUR PET DIES”

Written on: 17/08/2014

My dog recently had an illness resulting in her being put to sleep at recommendation of vet. When I enquired about cancelling my policy petprotect told me I had to continue paying £47 a month premium for another 6 & 1/2 months (until policy end date) or if I chose to cancel DD they would just deduct the £300 from my claim payout. So basically I'm between a rock & a hard place. After 12 years of premiums from me this is the treatment you get! 6 months paying insurance premiums for a dog that… Read Full Review

“I wouldnt recommend this company to no one, absolutely...”

Written on: 11/07/2014 by Claudia2k12 (1 review written)

I wouldnt recommend this company to no one, absolutely terrible with claim forms not that it only takes them ages to review the claim forms but then they make something up so you leave them alone and dont have to pay back! They say it covers emergency pet ilnesses and they to jack all about it saying it doesnt cover it! Worst company ever… Read Full Review

“Not Happy ”

Written on: 07/07/2014 by SergioHead (1 review written)

I have my dog and cat insured with this company both having tenant cover policies, which means as well as illness I should be covered for damaged caused to the fixture and fittings. I have tried claiming for vet visits a few times and every time was told that my animal was not covered for that particular illness. Anyhow the latest is my cat decided to claw a big hole in the hall carpet whilst I was away on holiday and upon my return I phoned Pet Protect to tell them I wished to make a… Read Full Review

Quick update, been 3 weeks now since I provided all the info they requested accompanied by my letter of complaint and I've only just had a standard letter back stating they need more time to review my complaint - no reference to my claim whatsoever!!!

I also wanted to point out here that I'm insured with Petpals but I've been getting correspondence from Pet Protect so they must be the same company!

“Not so bad.”

Written on: 02/07/2014 by Pugmax (1 review written)

After reading the reviews I was very worried about getting anything back at all. My pug puppy max who is 18month old was diagnosed with a serious meningitis type brain disease common to his breed and age. I have spent £5200 out of my own money to pay for brain scans, keemo drugs, steroids etc. the best news is max is doing really well and getting back to his normal self. The other good news is after around 25 working days £3450 has been paid direct into my bank no questions. With the balance… Read Full Review

“Disgusted. Absolutely shambles of a company”

Written on: 10/06/2014 by EileenOlson306 (1 review written)

Absolutely diabolical service. My king Charles spaniel has always been insured with pet protect and luckily up till now never had to make a claim. But when recently my dog badly injured his leg they had no intention of paying out. They use every excuse possible. To make things even worse their customer skills are disgusting. I'm having to find over £2500 even thought I've paid my insurance for the last two years!… Read Full Review

“They DID PAY OUT without quibble”

Written on: 26/04/2014 by 28agb (1 review written)

I felt very worried about a claim I made because of the reviews here. I had a policy for 14 years and had to claim when my cat had emergency surgery to remove a mass from her intestines and also needed to be looked after at emergency vet for 3 days. The vet costs were huge, so the long wait, and the thought that they might not pay distressed me. It did take time to get a response but they DID PAY OUT over £2,000 without quibble . There was £100 excess and 20% of vet fees for me to pay… Read Full Review

“Rogue Pet Insurance Company”

Written on: 24/03/2014

I insured my pet cat with this awful company when we bought him from a rescue centre 2 1/2 years ago. Until January this year I have never needed to make a claim. Unfortunately, when I did make a claim I was fobbed off for over 7 weeks with excuse after excuse. Firstly there was a 'high volume of claims due to 'the time of year' what utter rubbish! Then a letter saying my claim would be settled within 10 days, after 13 days, I received the bombshell to say they were very sorry but I was not… Read Full Review

“avoid avoid avoid”

Written on: 12/02/2014 by myboyroy (2 reviews written)

I decided to take a plan with this company for my new dog after they filmed my old dog having acupuncture. I thought wow this company really cares about the treatment offering cover for alternative therapy. In 2010 I took out cover. The plan seemed really good and the excess reasonable with lifetime cover. 6 months in I needed to make a claim. Battle one. Excuses never received the claim. Then yes we have it. Then new system issues finally I received payment after 2 months. Then came the… Read Full Review

“Terrible”

Written on: 17/01/2014 by Di19 (1 review written)

All I wanted to do was register my rescue dog's chip in my name. 2 years on and I still can't do it! No contact from Pet Protect at all, even to tell me I hadn't sent "all" the necessary forms even when I sent what I was asked to send.m re-sent and still no contact from them. Very frustrating, avoid at all costs (which are expensive compared to other companies)… Read Full Review

“Very slow and greedy money seekers”

Written on: 13/01/2014 by humblethinker (1 review written)

Five weeks after sending the paperwork, no contact from PetProtect. I called their number and after 15 minutes of waiting time someone answered. I had to give all information on the phone (once again) to get the pet registered. NOW HERE IS THE MONEY SPINNERS CATCH 1) They emotionally blackmail you in buying a metal tag (GBP 4.75+VAT) instead of the plastic tag given at the time of microchip implant. They say the plastic tag is not durable and if it breaks the animal will be taken to a… Read Full Review

“WORSE COMPANY EVER”

Written on: 09/12/2013

Like everyone else I found they tell lies and are evasive. State things that are not true. Don't reply to any letters. Don't reply to emails unless you chase. Basically a rip off company that should be stuck off and not allowed to trade. If you want to throw your money down the drain then sign up with them. Intend to take legal action against them and make life difficult for their so called Managing Director who could not manage anything. Wish I could give them minus 10 stars as thats what… Read Full Review

“When does Cowboy Traders start again?”

Written on: 06/11/2013

Please please AVOID these charlatan's at all costs. After taking my premiums for years they used the most ridiculous reason for not paying out. Now I have an elderly cat who will never be insured again because of them. I cant afford any further treatment and as I said now I cant get insurance because of his age. How these people are allowed to continue is beyond me. At least Mr Whittington stole from the rich to give to the poor, Pet Protect take from everyone to give to themselves… Read Full Review

“STOP NOW LOOK”

Written on: 24/10/2013

Insured two pets for many years with Petprotect. Never made a claim. Recently my dog was attacked and wounded by another dog in a public Park and incurred a £860 vet bill. Processed a claim immediately with all the necessary paperwork. Received a letter stating that "we aim to process claims within 20 working days". Received nothing by 20 working days. Called up on the 26th working day after the date on the letter. Stroppy young man answered and admitted eventually that the claim had not… Read Full Review

“INVESTIGATION NEEDED WITH A VIEW TO BEING STRUCK OFF”

Written on: 18/07/2013

How these jokers ever achieve the dizzy heights of a 'one star' rating is beyond me! Try to speak to them on the phone and all the usual 'insurance speak' evasiveness is there in plenty . . . "No we still haven't received your claim form from your vet" (this is a week after completion and double-checking with the vet that it has been posted). The unforgiveable thing is they are training young staff members to deliberately 'lie through their teeth' and place every obstacle in the path of… Read Full Review

“I might as well have burned the monthly installments.”

Written on: 09/05/2013

I took out Quick Cover outdoor cat. My cat became ill and naturally I took him to the vet. He had swollen gums and the vet thought he had ingested something. He was given antiobiotics and anti inflamitory. There was no improvement so he went back again. My insurance said vet fees up to £1,500. After a few visits, x ray, bloods and urine tests he was was diagnosed with kidney failure. Apparently you need to be psychic as they dont cover kidney failure, and I should have forseen that as he had… Read Full Review
