I applied online for a £12K Sainsbury's loan on a Sunday and got the forms through with the advertised 4.9% APR the following Tuesday. I returned the agreement straight away and the money went in to my account 3 working days later as promised. The process seemed pretty painless from my experience. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones, but the APR beats any of the other loans around at the moment so might be worth a shot if you have a good credit history.
