“Audi TT roadster 225 BHP”

★★★★★

written by seanhaywood on 26/07/2011

I have owned several sports cars ranging from the MG TF 160 to the BMW z4 and Porche boxter and in my opinion the Audi has far better build quality, performance, handling and value for money for a like aged car than any other sports car I have owned in the same class. This car is like being on rails when driving and the quattro handling certainly comes into its own when you need it. It puts a smile on my face espeecially with the top down. I have only had a very minor problem which was the headlight washer pump and replaced that very easily for £48.00. If you are considering purchasing a decently priced convertible sports car then you just cant go wrong with the Quattro 225 BHP.

I love this car. I've had it nearly 3 years and it's been totally reliable.
It's fast, handles well and is economical. I think it's the best value sports car you can buy. If I'm feeling fed up, I go for a drive and it always puts a smile on my face. One downside is the hard ride - hit a pothole and you will know about it ! If you don't already own one, treat yourself, you'll be glad you did.

Great build quality, looks great even now. Goes like stink. i had a 3 series before and i felt like a change and i wasnt dissapointed. Tts only a two seater if you dont have kids under the age of 6. Suprised also i wasnt at the pumps every two days. Only downside is my workmates all think i am having a midlife crisis, funny at first not after a 100 times do bewarned if you are over the age of 40.

TT 225 Quattro Coupe. If you're in the market for a smart coupe you'll probably have looked at the same range of cars i have. you'll have wittled it down to probably an Alfa GT, pretty but front wheel drive and a tad unreliable, a BMW 3 series coupe (every other car is a 3 series, and i've had one; they're over-rated), a Merc or the Audi TT. I recomend the TT completely. It ticks all the boxes. Despite what barstool 'experts' will tell you the TT, in Quattro form, is a stunning drive. I've had several performance cars but the TT handles better than any of them. It is so planted, so predictable, so surefooted that you can drive it much harder, much more of the time. If you're thinking of taking it on; don't bother unless you've a 911 or similar. a fraction over six seconds to 60 and 150+ mph coupled to four wheel drive gives all the performance you'd want. The driving seat is a great place to be. Heated leather seats, Boss stereo and great air con means you feel a bit special whilst the driving position is near perfect. It's going to take a hell of a car to get me out of the TT.
I can only think of a 997 Porsche as being able sway me, that's how good it is.

I've loved this car from the moment I saw one in the flesh when I was 19, back in 1999, Since then I've wanted one. I had my 225 for nearly two years now. To say I'm obsessed would be an under statement. Last year I was driving everyday and to be honest, the servicing costs did add up. Now I only drive it at weekends but its what I look forward to. What you've got to ask yourself about your current car is:
a) : Does it have better performance than most?
b) : Does it look better than most?
c) : Does it keep you interested?
The TT definitely does all these things.
If you want a future classic in my opinion, which will keep you smiling.... most..... of the time, get a 225.
If you want something average and predictable get something else. Simple as that.

written by alanxtc on 22/10/2008

I purchased my TT 2002 with 2500 miles on the clock. After the normal recalls I settled down to what I thought would be a decent driving period. I do a lot of miles - in xs of 30K most years but have hit every service and keep on top of things myself. Kept to Pilot Sports as tried P zeros but slipped off the road with them... Now I'm on my 4th set of shocks and anti-roll bars. Getting a bit cheesed off with it to be honest - have to buy another set of front tyres again now that the suspension has been rubbing, is this a normal problem or do I have the Friday afternoon car?

I have had way too much fun with my TT Roadster. It handles great and has enough pick in higher gears when I need it. The size is great for around town and for maneuvering in traffic!

written by on 13/01/2008

The car has tons of electrical issues. The passenger window will not go up. The dash cluster goes out every time I turn off the car. This makes the odometer go out and the engine light comes on. This makes it difficult every time I try to smog it in CA. The Audi dealer has no idea why the dash lights and instrument panel goes out. He says he needs it for at least two days. I don't have two days to give him or the money to pay for something he has NO IDEA what to look for.

So... I can't sell it because most of the dash won't work.

you're suffering from the Dashpod fault which is apparent in all TT's up to 2004 from which point the made the pod to a higher standard and faults are not as common.

the fault used to be repaired by audi as it is a known manufacturing defect, these days however they do not allow for this and will happily charge the customer (i.e. you) around £800.00 pretty much double for the american market.

your Audi dealer should know of this fault, i'm amazed he doesn't, he should not be in his occupational position without the correct knowledge.

I have not looked back since owning the TT. I do have another car though and it would not be practical as the only motor in my life, saying that I love the time I spend behind the Audis wheel so it dose its job fantastically well.

I have owned my Audi TT Roadster 1.8 Quattro from new, and covered 76k miles. The car still brings a smile to my face as equally as it brings a grimace! The ride comfort is however taking its toll, and it's time to go. The car has been extremely reliable, only having scheduled services and its MOT. I would recommend it as either your main car, or as a fun weekender.

The dealers on the other hand! They are the absolute pitts. Whilst happy to exchange £30k for the car, they really couldn't care less thereafter. Don't buy the car from a main dealer if you cherish good service - go independent.

Overall costs and VFM are very good, even with high miles I'll get back 45% after this long, and the running costs are (relatively) good, motorways return 30mpg city 20mpg.

★★★☆☆

written by AudiTTR on 20/08/2005

Pretty much, the TT roadster is a fun sporty car. It has great handling ability for throwing into tight corners and powering through. The Quattro gives you the confidence to not worry about fish-tailing. The TT is at home around country roads, however, on the highway, it holds its own. You get a lot of road noise on the highway, however the 6 speed box provides good ratios for the 225HP engine. You don't have to keep shifting up and down the box for overtaking. Granted the turbo does provide a bit of lag, but once it's there you're chugging along nicely. Like it, however would not buy another. When researching, I drove all cars in the category; 350Z, G35, S2000, Z3, Z4 etc... and the TT did it for me at the time.
The car is fun and sporty, however the after sales are something to pay close attention too. I like the car, however I do not love it. My next car was going to be an S4, however the M3 is looking more favourable, despite me being a fan of the Quattro system!

written by Chris Hill on 29/05/2005

I am nearly three years into owning my second Audi TT R, a 225 bhp. Performance and handling are superb, specification; styling and value for money are unbeatable. My first TT (180bhp) was totally reliable my second has been plagued with electrical problems, a faulty rear window heater, electric comfort pack replacement, windows opening after setting the alarm, alarm problems, 2 coil replacements, power steering issues, etc. The quality of dealer service has
declined. I feel that the popularity of the TT has caused problems in maintaining build quality while meeting increased production volumes. I still love the car but have been more than a little disappointed with my Friday afternoon model!

“I purchased the Audi TT 225 roadster model in 2001 ”

★★★★☆

written by bryngwran on 12/05/2005

I purchased the Audi TT 225 roadster model in 2001
As a owner of sports cars dating back to the early seventies. I have owned many different makes & models of sportscars from E type jags, jensons, AC,s to MG RV 8s & Big Healeys. You name it I've had it. Each have had good & bad points but generally were not purchased with practicality in mind. Some gave more thrills per minute than the TT some were less than 100% reliable. Most had frighteneing depreciation rates, or high sevicing costs. This time I wanted something that would depreciate just that bit slower. Whilst still giving adequate performance be-fitting a sports car. But practical enough to use on those dark wet winter evenings without either freezing, Worrying about handling or getting wet seats or feet!
The TT has given this & has performed faultlessly. At this juncture let me explain I am an Mechanical engineer & appreciate quality build & design This the TT Has in abundance.
I am a stickler for correct servicing of vehicle the golden rule for hopefully trouble free motoring. This has always been stuck to rigidly & as on most occasions in the past ensured total reliabilty but with sensible servicing costs due to long life servicing intervals. [A long way from some of my earlier cars with 3000 mile service intervals!]
I have used the car infrequently during the winter months but during a period of snow its quattro system led to sure footed handling whilst over cars slipped & slid around.
Overall its proved the most practical sports car I have ever owned.
Would I buy another, well yes, But I would like the 6 cylinder version next. For my second golden rule is always buy the most powerfull version available at the time. But yet again again I fancy the new maserati next, but worry about reliabilty should I purchase it.
Finanlly I almost forgot insurance proved to be sensible to for the TT @ £325.00 fully comp but again I have now reached the age of Saga junk mail!!

★★★☆☆

written by wheelslick on 05/04/2005

My trouble started when I bought my 7000 mile Audi TT R 225bhp sports car which was 1 1/2 years old from an authourised audi dealer. I nearly crashed the car on the way back in light drizzle on the motorway because the brakes wouldn't hold anywhere near as good as my 6 year old BMW. The audi dealer said that the brakes aren't excellent on the tt. Considering it has done only 20,000 motorway miles in 2 1/2 years, I have spent money on multiple electrical glitches, broken antiroll bars, one failed mot due to the broken antiroll bars, worn shocks, suspension problems, engine problems. I have spent £3500 in sorting out problems in the car over the last 1 1/2 years in addition to routine servicing costs and tyres.

written by Anthony Lefevre on 18/01/2005

The Audi TT R is a car for those of you who love stylish cars that can accellerate faster than most, handle well around convoluted country roads at fast speed in wet conditions.
If you want to have fun driving a car - this competes well with most sports cars. If you are looking for economy, safe comfortable rides from A to B with your family and a nice soft ride - go buy something else.
I love fast sexy cars - I love my TT 225

★★★★★

written by M4 LTT on 30/06/2004

As one of the first Audi TT owners in the country in February 2000 and still an owner after 4 years I can tell you that there is no car that is better for the money. It has fantastic looks that are better than other cars at twice the price and its performance and handling are superb.
If you want one, get the 225 4wd quattro. It's performance is much better than the 180 or the newly introduced 150(which is front wheel drive only) and isn't even in the same class. The car can be chipped to even better performance and many have been chipped up to close on 300.
If you are considering buying one secondhand then I would recommend that you try to buy one that has not been modified so you can decide for yourself just what you want to do with it.
Good luck you will enjoy it.

“This is one of the best cars if you know how to drive...”

★★★★☆

written by Stelios on 21/08/2003

This is one of the best cars if you know how to drive this car your driving experience will set go to another level, make no mistake the Audi TT Quattro (225bhp) is the one to buy. I have mine for 2 years now and I travel through Europe 7 times, I never had a single problem, all this beautiful Italian roads and my Audi TT made my trip every time memorable, I think the smaller version (180bhp) is not good enough for travelling long distance and the minus point here is practicality, well if you want a family car you shouldn't be driving a TT roadster. One more think, be careful no to smash your rear window screen because than you have to change the entire top cover.
