“.22 RWS Hobby pellets and the HW45”

Not to want to rain on the parade of people praising RWS Hobby pellets - and I am sure that they are sincere in their reviews - but these pellets are the worst thing, with the possible exception of Q-Tips (which I have not tried, nor would I), I have encountered in my .22 HW45.

I was given a tin of these pellets as a freebie when I bought my Weihrauch HW45. At first I thought it was me, but that was quickly dispelled when I got a tin of H&N Field Target Trophy pellets.

Further I have spoken to others who also have a .22 HW45 and they confirmed the extremely poor performance of these pellets in their own .22 HW45 pistols.

What is my gripe? Simply put, if I aim at a target I cannot predict whether the Hobby pellets will hit wildly high, low, left or right of my point of aim. Sometimes, just to break the monotony of this, they will actually hit the target approximately where I aimed them.

The Hobby pellets just drop into my barrel. I have to be very careful when I close the barrel that they do not fall out. Thus they do not properly engage the rifling when I shoot them. This makes flyers with regard to these pellets and my .22 HW45 the norm and not the exception.

My bottom line is, if you have a .22 HW45 then no matter how cheaply you can buy these pellets, it is not worth it. So if you are considering buying a tin of them for your .22 HW45, do yourself a favour and go out shooting with a shotgun instead.
