My boss purchased a SWORDFISH 2000XCD Shredder for our office in Fulham a few years ago and itis still running properly

My shredder is rarely used but when I do use it the use is quite intensive. I find that providing I do not feed more than 4-5 sheets at a time, it will happily shred its way continuously through a hundred or so sheets without overheating. In recent shred, it stopped only once, when the container was full and cleared itself after a few minutes to run again. In continuous use there can be a slight whine from the blades but a dose of oil (or even better one of Swordfish's "monthly" lubrication cards) soon cures that. Over all, this is decent domestic use shredder for the money.

Although this cuts well and the shreds are to at least DIN 3 standard, the machine itself is not strongly built and ours has failed after 25 months of regular low use. Approx 100 sheets per month. The machine is good in having a forward and reverse button but I found that it could not cut 20 sheets as specified. I tried 20 A4 80 gsm paper - standard office paper - and it failed to cut them even when brand new. It could cope with about 12 pages only. Despite regular cleaning and oiling it got down to olnt being able to cope with 1 or 2 sheets, and now it cannot even manage that. It came with a 24 month warranty, but that was not worth the paper it was written on as there are so many 'get out' clauses.

The bearings on my Swordfish 2000XCD Shredder shattered 14 months after purchase despite only moderate domestic use and regular oiling.

Overall, this product delivers excellent value for money and is suitable for office use. It tells you when the bin is full with an illuminating light. It has castors in order to move the shredder easily and automatic stop/start controls with auto-reverse function.
